I have been to GP 3 times about a mole and finally insisted they remove it, as its not circular, its scabby, it bleed and itches. Im sure its fine but know how much i was allowed to get sunburnt as a child and would rather be safe.
GP told me that if he cant get hospital to agree to remove it, if he cant conviece them its a risk I have to pay £120 to have it removed as its classed as "cosmetic".

This is a new rule from Nov last year so if they had done it first time I could have got it free.

AIBU because it could be just cosmetic.

I would definatly change surgery if you can. I lost my Mum this year because the Dr.'s missed cancer of the bowel till it was too late, she had been ill for years and was in her 50's.

YADNBU - I'm originally from South Africa and I find the NHS to both be a fantastic and wonderful organisation but also horribly bureaucratic at times.
I've had three moles removed and they were all done by my GP in one visit with a local anaesthetic. She then sent off for analysis. It took all of fifteen minutes.

Surely the hospital has better things to do? It's a pretty minor procedure. I suspect thought that the rules regarding who can do what are different here. I think GPs, Pharmacists and nurses are a lot more restricted in what they're allowed to do in comparison.

Didn't Jasper Carrot have a method for removing moles?

Seem to remember it involved a shotgun and a revolving stool Grin

glad you've got an appointment.

You definately should get this checked by a dermatologist - i've had 3 moles removed since i was a teenager (on the NHS because of excess UV treatment over the years) and (without wishing to worry you) one did come back as being on `the turn' to becoming a malignant melenoma. I should stress this particular mole was in an obscure place and was not itchy and or bleeding and was a new mole that was a strange colour and shape.

Sounds a bit bizarre but if you have any concerns about a mole the best advice i was given was to measure them and take photos so you can compare them over a period of time as a record.

hope you're appointment goes ok
