I was in my car driving out of tesco car park today when I noticed a man shouting at the woman he was with.

As I got closer he was raising his fist at her and shouting. She was in tears.

I drove past and wound my window down to ask her if she was ok. She said a tearful yes. The man then shouted at me so I told him to treat her properly.

They walked on towards the shop but then the man turned and started running towards my car. I carried on driving.

Did I do the wrong thing? I feel sick that I have made things worse for this lady.

Should have reversed into him

I don't think you did anything wrong. If we were all more aware and more willing to say something when we see something like this happening, then perhaps men like this would get away with less.

Don't let yourself think that you might have made things worse. You can't be held responsible for what this man chooses to do/say to his partner.

And just maybe, your concern and kind words will have made this woman think again about her situation.

I have previously been in the same situation. But I wasn't in my car and I KNEW the guy. He started shouting at me when I told him to stop having a go at his girlfriend. He then turned on me and clenched his fists, I stood my ground and said "X if you are going to hit me make it a good one because I don't love you like she does and WILL go straight to the police to file charges" I meant it and he knew it, he backed down and hopefully was very humiliated. Needless to say he didn't stay a friend very long. Bullies need people to stand up to them.

good for you fty!

I hope you didn't make anything harder, hopefully it did help her think about her life, and maybe he might too.

I saw a young man in egypt slap his gf in broad daylight. I was 4 flights up, and 6 lanes of traffic away. Only after if looked to be squaring up to hit her again did an old man say something. I felt utterly powerless to do anything. But then of course, it's totally the norm. More hit than don't...

The things i've seen there... No wonder i got agoraphobia...

I always ring the police when I see this happening.

I don't know if you did anything right or wrong tbh. Maybe you had no effect at all.

That's why I always ring the police.
