Or over sensitive

Okay to give you a bit of back story briefly I put on a few stone after having my dd but lost more than I put on after (through sheer hard work!) and have managed to maintain for 2 years. I am now 8 stone 9 lbs and happy - just excercising to tone my flabby thighs though!

Anyway I went to collect something I was having altered today and DH came with me and when I tried it on (it fit lovely) DH says 'if you put on any more weight your backside will fall out of that' - I just shot him a look as if if to say 'you what?' - when we left the shop I said so I'm fat am I? And he went in to how sensitive I am etc etc

I just didn't understand, and still don't, why he felt he had to make such a remark.

So am I being over sensitive or is DH just a knob!?

YANBU at all. Congrats on losing the weight and keeping it off. How mean of him! Is he in the habit of making remarks like that?

firsttimemum77 · 13/09/2010 18:53

Thank you.

No, he's not, which is why it surprised me...

YANBU, he is a knob.

thisisyesterday · 13/09/2010 18:55

was he trying to make a joke???? am being generous here :-S

does HE need to lose weight and is maybe jealous of how well you have done?

bizarre. i certainly don't think you're being unreasonable or over-sensitive. it's a nasty thing to say

AnyFuleKno · 13/09/2010 18:59

your response:

"shut it gutlord"...and flounce out

Greensleeves · 13/09/2010 19:01

is he one of these idiots who feels insecure when he sees his partner looking attractive? Is he insecure about his own looks? Is he usually controlling about what you wear?

Ah fuck it. Just kick him in the nuts.

Flisspaps · 13/09/2010 19:02

Knob

firsttimemum77 · 13/09/2010 19:04

Your responses have made me smile. No he doesn't need to lose weight, he's quite slim! He's really confident - he works in high end menswear and has to look good at all times. I would never dream of saying anything like that to him, even if he did put on a not of weight! He just doesn't get why I found the comment rude though!

Someone will be along to tell you to divorce him I am sure. I am sure he was joking or the words just came out wrong. Ignore it if he is not usually like that.

firsttimemum77 · 13/09/2010 19:08

He's never ever had a problem with what I wear etc or my confidence. We are always on the level and been married 12 years! He gets a lot of attention from women (and men!) as he is attractive (even I do say so myself) so I have no idea what made him say something so totally put of character... Knob! I'm really cross with him...

Sorry using iPhone so a few spelling mistakes!

floweryblue · 13/09/2010 19:14

Sounds like it was a joke which came out wrong and you have taken badly.

sleepingsowell · 13/09/2010 19:45

'if you put on any more weight' is a bit pointed and mean. I wouldn't have been impressed.

nagoo · 13/09/2010 19:46

Not sensitive. Him arse.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 13/09/2010 19:52

You're not oversensitive; it was a rude and thoughtless remark. But if it's the first time he's made a comment like that I would let it go now.

Maybee · 13/09/2010 19:54

a knob - he should be delighted that you've lost some weight but its probably just a tasteless joke let it go if its a one off

MrsMadWriggle · 13/09/2010 20:01

Seeing the thread title I clicked on because I wanted to use the YABOS acronym. But unfortunately there is no case for its usage.

Now if your DH wants to see what a truly fat arse looks like - send him round....

Odysseus · 13/09/2010 20:06

Did he say this in front of the salesperson?! Shock

perfumedlife · 13/09/2010 20:13

Am really trying to find something good to say, in the spirit of, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything atall.

Perhaaaaaaapsss he was so impressed by the horny way the fabric caressed and enveloped your derierre (sp?) and noting that the only thing there was space for was him, he wanted to explain how perfect you were just at that moment and couldn't be improved upon? Maybe? Confused

AnyFucker · 13/09/2010 20:16

he works in "high end menswear" ?

is he, in fact, Gok Wan } Hmm

because he used to be a right lardarse

start calling him GOK...he should get the picture

he may not be a twat...but that was a twattish comment making him sound like he is jealous of you looking good, perhaps you should feel sorry for the needy baby

Odeysseus - yes, infront of the salesperson!

I am going start calling him Gok! That's so funny, especially since he thinks Gok is a knob!

Grin
firsttimemum77 · 13/09/2010 21:21

SMP - good one! His suits are all made to measure / bespoke and his main indulgence! I can just picture his face if the crotch were missing on any one of his trousers.

Thanks all for giving me a good laugh! I really needed it today!
