sunday morning?

Every sunday we are woken by gardeners/diy'ers/kids in gardens any time from 8am.

It drives me crazy! I don't know if its because as a kid i was never allowed out until 10am on a sunday and this has stayed with me.

I have kids aged 6 & 9 and it grates that for a treat on a sat i may let them stay up late thinking they can have a lie in only for them to be woken at 8 grrrrr!

My hubby is a shift worker and often gets in in the early hours - i dont expect peace all day just 8am really?

Ok rant over..{finally breathes out and wonders if actually im just turning into my mother!}

YANBU. Noise pollution on a Sunday morning should be held back until at least 10am. Lawn mowers, power tools and those fucking church bells included.

MrsJamin · 13/09/2010 09:49

YABabitU. I have early waking children and sundays are a nightmare with nothing to do, if they wake at 6am and you say they can't go outside til 10am that's a bit far. I say 9am on all days for outside play.

TessOfTheBurbs · 13/09/2010 09:53

YABU. I don't see why lie-ins should take priority. Some people wake up early and like to start the day and get on with whatever, for whatever reason, or for none at all other than that they want to. It's their weekend too.

I was really cross because the local betting shop was open yesterday, Sunday. I know it opens so people can throw their money away at every opportunity but my old Protestant ethic was outraged!

I'm not even a Christian but I just feel there was something good about a day when the gods of capitalism and commerce weren't worshipped so avidly!

(By the way, I am being a hypocrite as I was on my way to the supermarket when I saw the Betting shop)

My neighbours cause havoc on Sunday mornings as they get all the kids in the car for church! Smile

Do people actually sleep until 10am on Sundays then? (Teenagers aside)

Snobear4000 · 13/09/2010 10:06

I reckon there is a certain type - my grandfather was one of these - a certain type of person who feels they have a "work ethic", who regimentally go to bed by 10pm, never drink, get up with the sparrows, iron their socks and pants, wear a tie on the weekend, never listen to the "devil's music" etc. These kind of boring old stiffs like to announce their clean-living, hard-working lifestyle to all and sundry by firing up the lawnmower at 9am whenever they like it, in order to

a: Show everyone what a respectable, dilligent do-gooder they are.

b: Wake up all the lazy sinners who should have known better than to stay up the night before, past the Witching Hour.

In my house we have a word for them. It's spelled: Cunts.

YANBU

8am on a Sunday is too early.

Crazycatlady I do sometimes, depends on what time I went to bed on the Saturday.

Crazycatlady · 13/09/2010 11:09

Snobear you've very accurately described my father in law! I don't think he does it to teach people a lesson though, more that he just hasn't thought through that not everyone wants to hear him singing opera while mowing his lawn at 7am, on any day of the week...

It's neither here nor there to us what our neighbours do at 8am on a Sunday, by consequence of having a toddler and having a running mad husband, one or all of us are out of the house by then usually, unless it's raining.

I would object to unnecessary noise between the hours of 11pm and 7am as that's in line with local bylaws etc but aside from that it's just about being considerate to others while living and letting live surely?

"I won't let DS out in the garden on a Sunday until after 10am..its hard if he's been up since 6am but I like to consider the neighbours.

Obviously earlier on a weekday if he's at home because I know my neighbours work and not at home

Basic politeness imo"

I agree - I think that's an excellent rule.

YANBU. There's a difference between people going about their daily business and taking the piss. Powertools and lawn mowers at 8am is ridiculous.

Living in a terrace street with an open plan strip of land for the front garden we have to endure the delights of the entire streets children screaming at the top of their voice and bouncing their football off the house sometimes from 7am before school and at weekends, while their parents sit slavering in the house.

I can not wait to move.
