I mean, the ordinary day to day person isn´t going to know that chorizo is not pronounced cho-ritz-oh, but Cho-ri-tho. However, top chefs should know better. Chorizo is SPANISH, not ITALIAN! It´s bout time they made the same effort to say it correctly, as they do with French cuisine!

It's revolting so shouldn't be mentioned on any cookery programme. Pronunciation problem solved! :o But if it has to be mentioned then YANBU at all :) Either pronounce it properly in its language of origin or use the English version.

Ozmetric you're very wrong. In this house, chorizo goes in everything including custard.

Lol @ plate as a verb. Yes, most infuriating.

Oh, who cares about chorizo pronunciation? I used to work at a travel company where my boss insisted on me saying 'an otel' when I was speaking to clients. How farking annoying. I stuck with 'a hotel', just to pee him off. Grin

people pronouncing it the spanish way make my teeth itch

we are speaking English ffs

Plate as a verb is utterly forgiveable in catering establishments as people are hurrying and 'plate those' saves much time over 'could you put those on a plate'

MrsGangly · 13/09/2010 10:02

'z' in Spanish can be pronounced 'th' or 'z', depending on where you are. I learnt my Spanish in South America, where the 'th' sound isn't used at all, as in some parts of Spain, so always say 'chor-ee-zo'.

I'm going to train my dc to stand in the middle of Waitrose and say in a loud voice "But Mummy we simply must buy some Cho-ree-thoh!" :o

Stood behind an (English) man in Pret t'other day who asked for a cappacinno (spelling!) in an Italian accent, and and for a croissant in a French accent.
