It just shows noisy violent drivel, which is pointless. I don't know whether it does ds's brain any harm, but it can't be doing him any good.

Of course, my pronouncement has confirmed to ds that I am the most mean mother in the world.

I agree with you, it's crap.

Now with DS (8) we're at the manga stage, so it's all Naruto etc which is v.noisy and violent as well.I try to limit it as much as possible.

YANBU.

YANBU!

If it helps, you could tell him that you're not the meanest mummie in the world - on this one, I think I may be. We don't have digital telly at all - limits their viewing significantly!

HowsTheSerenity · 11/09/2010 09:51

What about the Fairly Odd Parents? That is one of my most favourite cartoons.
Very funny, lots of adult innuendo that goes right over the kids heads Grin

HerBeatitude · 11/09/2010 09:53

No you're not, it's shit.

Adn you have to pay extra for it. Why would anyone choose to pay extra for shit TV? If it's free, fair enough. But to pay extra for shit? What's that about?

LithaR · 11/09/2010 09:58

I honestly didn't have a tv until I was given one to use whilst breastfeeding lol. I plan to get rid of it once I've stopped breastfeeding, tv is nothing but rubbish anyway and if I want to watch something I'd go to the cinema for a day out.

Clumsymum · 11/09/2010 12:51

LithaR I disagree with you hugely. TV shows a great many programs which are very educational, thought provoking, and good entertainment, as well as the (admitedly high) percentage of dross and crap on there.

We have cable TV which gives us a wide range of channels, but try to use it selectively. We are not a household which watches the daily soap-opera crap, but we do look out for the good nature/history/science type stuff (Planet Earth, a series which was on recently about british scientists through history, Simon Sharma's history documentaries), and even programmes like Brainiac make DS think about science a bit.

Not having a TV at all would be like not going to the library, simply because they include Mills & Boon in the stock.

but, but,......you're missing 'the marvellous misadventures of flapjack' and 'chowder' Shock

Clumsymum · 11/09/2010 13:38

Also LithaR, I'm a bit bemused by your link between breastfeeding and watching TV.

Do you sit there with LO sucking away while you gawp at the box?

I know it's 11 years ago for me, but I seem to remember giving DS a fair bit of my attention while he was feeding, watching him, talking softly to him, or I do admit to sitting with my eyes closed and snatching some rest. Yep if the radio or TV had been on when it was time to feed, I wouldn't switch it off, but wouldn't specifically put TV on to have something to 'do' while feeding

merrymouse · 11/09/2010 13:46

I breastfed and watched TV. When DS was born he fed for hours and hours and hours. It would have been easier to identify the times I wasn't breastfeeding. I got through some good books too.

Re: Cartoon Network - when your children can afford to pay for it from their Saturday job, they can choose the cable stations.

We never watch TV now of course - not now you can watch everything on the computer Grin

January, yes we can lock it, but now that DS is 11 I don't want to have to.

I have talked to him about why I don't think it's suitable viewing. I'm hoping that he can respect my decision on it, without it being forceably locked.

Satellite and Cable TV: Nature's way of telling you that you have more money than taste.
