to send DD into playschool with an overall in her bag

DD started playschool this week She was given 2 tops, it's their uniform and it has the logo on. These are £6.00 each to buy but was given the first 2 free. She goes 2 mornings a week.

Tuesday she came home with a ittle paint down her top. I didn't worry too much but today she came home COVERED in paint. Clearly no overall was used. I've washed these tops and they are stained. I've hung them on the line where they will stay out overnight. Hopefully the stains will fade.

AIBU to send her in on Tuesday with an overall so she can cover herself when she paints? I'd rather not end up buying new tops at £6.00 a go in a couple of weeks or am I sending out a pretentious message.

Do they not have overalls at the playschool?

shinyshoes · 10/09/2010 18:28

I'm assuming not given the state of her

Send her in with one of DP/DH's old shirts, very good for a cover up. Write her name in it and tell her to put it back in the bag on her peg when it's not being used.

Uniform for playschool?

shinyshoes · 10/09/2010 18:36

JorrisBohnson she's 2 , that's too many words for her to understand at the moment Grin

and yes, uniform for playschool. I didnt realise it existed for children that young

we had the same problem. i just sent my son in with paint stained tshirts. infact i made a point of changing him out of CLEAN tops in the cloakroom (ob he had a vest underneath), to put the uniform covered in paint stains back on, and change him out of it again after the session.

its really not that hard to ensure children painting have aprons on. Hmm

DD1 has uniform (optional) for preschool. The whole idea is that it gets painty and gluey etc and stops the rest of their clothes getting in this state! They gradually get more and more paint stained and it gradually fades but that is the point of it! DD2 goes to non uniform nursery. If she gets paint all over something then she wears it every week until she grows out of it because what is the point in another Tshirt being ruined?

shinyshoes · 10/09/2010 18:47

ohhhhhhhh

I didnt realise, It makes sense now. I was assuming they'd have a catbum face when I took her into school on Tuesday in a top covered in stains. I didnt think that that was the point of it Blush

I might ask though, as to avoid catbum face and judgeyness about our living standards Grin

Of course you may be the one who is right and there are all these people judging me and thinking I have no standards! Grin

Clayhead · 10/09/2010 20:03

mnistoaddictive, I agree.

I even made ds wear dd's old stained pre-school tops (and I inherited some of those off a friend Blush)

I think they get to a point where they stop looking more stained. Still, saved all their other clothes and they enjoyed their messy play Smile

PigletJohn · 10/09/2010 20:09
Confused don't they use paint that can be washed out?
Lotkinsgonecurly · 10/09/2010 20:13

We've got a couple of optional playgroup logo t-shirts and I just put them on over the other (old) clothes. We wear the same few items to playgroup, as everything comes home filthy. I always wash it so its clean just stained. Grin

My kindergarten has an optional uniform - it's just to discourage people sending their DC's clothed in their Boden best. We even had one little girl who wore the most beautiful Monsoon outfits every day!

Just keep sending her in the stained uniform. That's what it is for Smile
All the DC's look the same by the end of the session anyway!

(We do have aprons but some of the DC's refuse to wear them.)

NoMoreChocBiscuits · 10/09/2010 20:21

My DS is off to playgroup in a couple of months and I think this thread is great. Now I can be prepared for himn come home filthy from his first day and know it's okay if he's wearing his playgroup top.

Thanks! Grin

sleepingsowell · 10/09/2010 20:22

I think the tops are there to get paint on. That's surely the point of having the tops rather than their own clothes. Just stick her in the tops and don't worry about it.
