...or maybe I am totally out of touch with my feelings.

But I just can't relate to all these people on mumsnet and my facebook friends shedding tears at their kids starting school? Is it a tradition which I am missing out on?

Ds1 is going on Monday. I didn't cry when he started school nursery (in uniform), so I very much doubt I will get a bit teary this time either.

I'm so looking forward to the space (with only 2 under 2's to take care of!) that I could give a cheer...

I feel like a freak!

I don't think people are shedding sad tears are they?

Just a damp eye because their little baby is growing up so fast and making you feel so proud when you see them marching off to big school in their shiny new shoes.

I'm not remotely sad about dd starting school next week. I shall have a little lump in my throat as I wave her off though. My little girl. She was a plump little baby in a red gro last time I looked and suddenly she has opinions and hairstyles and everything. It's such a wonderful thing to watch and be a part of.

OH MY GOD!!!!!! finally someone who is like me :o i never cried at my dd starting school for the first time last week and nor did i cry when both the dd and ds started nursery. now don't get me wrong, i was so proud of them both taking these first steps but im just not the crying type Confused

Not a freak alone. I am also a tearless freak.

MerryMarigold · 09/09/2010 15:24

Ah, I see. Thanks for explaining. I guess the last 5 years (nearly) have been very vivid for me. I can't remember the babygro years that well, but I can certainly remember the 8 long weeks of summer holidays!!!

Depends on the child, surely? DS hated it (and in fact didn't cope at all well). DD, on the other hand, marched in announcing 'I am more than ready for this!' without a backward glance at her relieved parent.

MerryMarigold · 09/09/2010 15:50

Thing is lancelottie, a lot of them seem to be crying before their kids do, or despite the fact their kids aren't!

I wasn't overly emotional about dd starting last year, but have wished on several occasions since that she wasn't at school tbh!

I have been delighted at the first two going, but I think I might well get tearful when my precious last born goes off to school!

mumbar · 09/09/2010 17:00

DS is an only child I cried after I dropped him off, and when I got to work Blush. And the day he finished reception Hmm

Year 1 fine and ok this year too.

YANBU tho everyone is different.

Didn't bother me in the least either Grin DS started today and all I can think of is the long list of things I'm going to be able to achieve with both of them off my hands Grin Doesn't mean I'm not cognisant of the importance of the day, or of how much they are growing up, it just means I'm not made to cry about these things. But then I never cry!

MerryMarigold · 09/09/2010 21:16

Thanks for making me feel more normal. Seriously I am the ONLY person I know not getting all choked up over this lifestage.Yeah, I guess I'm just not the sentimental type...I probably won't even cry at poor dd's wedding! (Though I've got a good 30 years to practise Wink)
