WIBU to outsource my nesting?

I'm becoming more and more aware that my house needs some kind of deep clean. This may be some part of nesting (I'm 36 weeks) but if it is, it's about as far as it went last time, and I'm not expecting the urge to get down and scrub the floors any time soon.

So AIBU to get someone else in to fulfil the practical part of nesting and give my house a thorough clean?

Ooh I want someone to do this and I'm not PG, just lazy busy! YANBU!

ethelina · 09/09/2010 14:17

Totally. And when you've done with them please can you send them round here. Nesting is something thats sadly passed me by I think. Grin

lifeas3plus1 · 09/09/2010 14:18

Can I come and do it for you!

I've been in "early labour" Hmm for a week now and I literally have nothing left in my house to clean!

My fingers are twitching!

wem · 09/09/2010 14:19

I wonder how much it would cost. Having a slightly tight time of it at the moment, so not sure I'll be able to convince DH Sad

lifeas3plus1 you can do mine when you've finished OP's if you like!!

MrsC2010 · 09/09/2010 14:19

YANBU. My midwife said that nesting is actually your body getting a burst of energy for labour...but as most of us are on leave by the time it kicks in we're at home so channel the energy into that. As such, she said not to go crazy with the nesting and save the energy!

wem · 09/09/2010 14:19

oh my god lifeas3plus1 - absolutely! Where do you live Wink

Have a look at Molly Maid website - they are a franchise, but I think they'll come and give you a FOC quote.

MisterW · 09/09/2010 14:20

Do it... do you want the number of our cleaner?

NotSoRampantRabbit · 09/09/2010 14:22

I outsourced mine wem. Grin

Got my friend's cleaner to come for a few hours while I went out to lunch.

Then I did the sorting of scrumptious babygros and the putting things away neatly in weird nesting fashion.

You need to spend time arranging cuddly toys and eating cake - not scrubbing floors and skirting boards. It's the law.

gingerkirsty · 09/09/2010 14:28

lol @ 'outsource my nesting' - love it! Just do the bits you fancy and get someone else in to do everything else, nowt wrong with that is there?! YAdefNBU

JosephineClaire · 09/09/2010 17:00

I'm doing the same and I'm 31 weeks!

I'm having to spread the cost a bit, (sofas cleaned & sprayed with stain resistant coating, £200, oven deep cleaned, £40 etc) but it's worth it. It's the same company that do my windows so I know them quite well :)

In October I'm having someone come in to deep clean the grouting in bathroom and kitchen, and do the kitchen floor. Then all I have to think about are the easy jobs like dusting and hoovering :) it's very sensible.

I also take my bedding to the dry-cleaners to be washed and ironed - I find it impossible to iron bedding and actually get the creases out! I do the rest of my ironing myself though, and it's currently in a pile the height of a 7-yr-old....oops! Better get going on it tonight...

nymphadora · 09/09/2010 17:09

I'm outsourcing mine to dh & kids. My main nesting thing so far has beenhoarding food. We have a double cupboard full of jars & a freezer full of lasagne.

Antidote · 09/09/2010 17:12

YANBU

Also 36 weeks today, yipee!

I nearly kidnapped the two cleaners who I spotted outside the house next to ours this morning (they are doing a deep clean at the end of a tenancy apparently).

So glad DH was there to ask the price & practical details before I'd whipped my diary out and booked them in for a full house makeover.

Having said that my mother is coming to stay next week, and she may take one look at the state of the place and do it all for me .

I am also secretly pleased that the geriatric washing machine has thrown it's toys out of the pram again as I will have a golden excuse to waddle off to the laundrette and do a HUGE service wash Blush

wem · 09/09/2010 19:34

I've called a cleaning company who do one-offs and they said they only do minimum 4 hour jobs at £100, so that's a bit out of reach unfortunately. However, I'm seeing a couple of friends tomorrow who have cleaners I think, so might ask them if they think they'd be happy to do a couple of hours instead.

Antidote - when I mentioned it to DH one of his (tongue-in-cheek) suggestions was to get my mum to do it instead! Don't think I could bear to let her at it though, she's such a clean freak I'm sure she thinks we live in filth as it is.

(disclaimer - DH is very good at pulling his weight around the house, just not sure he thinks a 'deep clean' is necessary)

YANBU! Go for it.

I outsourced the bulk of my nesting to the group of eager girls I was supposed to be looking after the week before DD was born. (Well, I was looking after them, but they more than earned it) They loved being given such very important jobs, and I could keep my very sore feet up.

Total win-win situation.

I hope your DC arrives easily and smoothly...
