I'll start with dirty bastards sat opposite me in libraries or behind me on buses chewing their gum so bastarding loud that I can hear every squelch. Eurgh.

People playing music without earphones on public transport

People playing music through earphones on public transport so loud that I can hear. It no longer becomes a personal ipod or mp3 player because my ears can hear the damn tuneless drones of the tasteless music.

Spitting. Just eurgh.

I would have been with you on the chewing gum, but it really stopped me feeling sick when I was pregnant - I was chewing it at work and everything. With you on the music though.

Littlepurpleprincess · 09/09/2010 08:11

I do have good headphones. Apple ones. They don't give off much sound.

Some attitudes here are lovely. Hmm

Speaking for myself, not only do I enjoy having my headphones in and turned up to eleven, on public transport I have to. If I don't, I get so travel sick I've literally thrown up on a few occasions regardless of what other 'cures' I've tried. Which would you rather, be mildly inconvenienced by a sound that, to be honest, you probably have to listen for on a crowded bus/train, or have me throw up everywhere?
Besides, having loud music acts like a barrier to stop obnoxious people sitting next to me and invading my personal space/talking to me about crap/asking questions about my son.

As for those cheap so-called non-leaking headphones, I am rather skeptical. I've tried any number of them and not one set has worked the way it claimed to, although admittedly I haven't tried these icandy ones, are they specifically for ipods/phones? (I don't own one, they're ridiculously expensive for what they are)
The only ones I've encountered that work are the skullcandy ones, and they're 30 quid a pop.

headphones wouldn't bother me at all, having spend years communting up and down the picadilly line i know what a godsend they are.

SirBoobAlot · 09/09/2010 08:47

Purple, you're coming across as very selfish. You won't turn your music down because someone hasn't asked you / you wouldn't mind if someone else had theirs on? Riiight. If you're on public transport, you are stuck inside a tin can with a load of other people. And just because you might not mind hearing "boom boom boom" out of someones headphones over the other side of the bus / carriage, doesn't mean everyone else is okay with listening to yours.

Littlepurpleprincess · 09/09/2010 09:06

You think it's selfish to be tolerant towards others, and expect them to be tolerant towards me?

I think thats very sad.

BootyMum · 09/09/2010 09:16

People [usually women!] who talk really loudly into their mobile phones on the train and bus. Usually incredibly boring conversation. Completely irritating. Should be banned!!! Selfish tossers.

Oh and I so agree about the chewing gum. What an annoying cow chewing cud noise, usually with mouth open as well. Aaaarrgghh!

Smile Feel so much better now

I don't see much difference between people having conversations with each other on the bus,and people talking on mobile phones Confused

Littlepurpleprincess · 09/09/2010 09:42

I don't blare loud music. I listen to little earphones. Confused

cakewench · 09/09/2010 09:46

The difference is that often, people talking on mobile phones are projecting their voices, as if they can't just speak normally and be heard by the person on the other end.

Personally, people shouting into their mobiles bothers me more than the headphone issue that people are flogging purple for.

usualsuspect · 09/09/2010 09:48

The only thing that bothers me is I can't eaves drop on the other part of the conversation Grin I've spent many a journey listening to other peoples conversations..

lostFeelings · 09/09/2010 10:00

I believe that there are headphones which won't produce any noise to the outside world...
regardless of

so maybe therre should be differnet standard only allowing those in the shops etc...?

Rockbird · 09/09/2010 10:10

So if we have to turn the music down on trains because we're in a little tin can where we should be considerate of other people's feelings, will everyone else then stop;

  • putting on make up (I don't want to be covered in your powder thanks, or see you gurning into your huge mirror)
  • drinking weak milky coffee that I can smell and makes me want to vomit
  • having inane conversations, either on the phone or to the equally vacuous person next to them
  • reading big newspapers
  • tapping away on a laptop with the tossing alert sounds on full volume
  • sitting with their legs spread across two seats
  • putting their bags in the aisle
  • standing in front of the doors for no reason
  • leaving their rubbish around the train including banana skins and apple cores on the seats

No, thought not...

Hullygully · 09/09/2010 10:12

kill everyone

BootyMum · 09/09/2010 10:16

Yes, the difference with mobile phones is that people speak more loudly into them, apparently with little consciousness of all the people trapped near to them who also get an earfull of whatever rubbish is being communicated.

Littlepurpleprincess · 09/09/2010 11:33

Grin @ Hullygully

onceamai · 09/09/2010 11:41

Personally I'd ban those who can't string together a few words to make a sentence without the indiscriminate and unnecessary use of foul language. When you learn not to swear in every sentence you will begin to earn the right to tell other people what to do.

sanielle · 09/09/2010 11:47

Loud music played through an mp3 where I can hear it is very rude but not half as obnoxious as a twat playing through their phone for friends. I don't care how old they are.

People putting their skanky shoes on the seat.

dustycups · 09/09/2010 14:16

to be honest i would leave those who play there music to loud alone and ban peodophiles and murderers

anyone agree!??!

sanielle · 09/09/2010 14:41

Um where would you ban them to?

dustycups · 09/09/2010 14:50

good question! errrm dunno mars!!?!

could ask op the same question where r you sending me for being a ignorant bitch!
