Is there such a thing? Any of you clever peeps out there be able to steer me in the right direction - I can't seem to find anywhere nice.

understand completely what you mean - they are all large modern affairs which can be rather soulless (although relaxing - we have been to the princesa yaiza 3 times....)

friends have recently been here -

lanzaroteretreats.com/

i know it looks a bit whacky but apparently the yurts were very solid and luxurious and it looks as though they are arranged in small groups. walking distance to a nice beach.

dinkystinky · 08/09/2010 11:51

Definitely try Lanzaroteretreats - the beach at Arrieta is lovely. They also have 2 lovely self catering apartments in the next village along (stayed in one of those) if yurts dont do it for you.

I'm at Sensatori Tenerife right now (on mnet while baby is napping, not being a sad cow). It's amazing everything you would want for children but plenty for adults too. Gran Melia de Isora if you don't go through Thomson.

goingbacktowork · 12/03/2011 21:47

what have they actually got for children?

geordieminx · 12/03/2011 21:49

Anthelia Or Los gigantes spa in Tenerife, princess yaiza in Lanazarote

mumbar · 12/03/2011 21:58

ER Yes, I lived there 6 years Grin Tell me what you are looking for (beach/golf/ apt/ hotel/ dc ages/ kids club etc) I'll suggest nice areas and the attractions of them. Also know and worked in hotels all over.

mumbar · 12/03/2011 21:59

This is an old thread. Hmm

geordieminx · 12/03/2011 22:00

Grrrrr

We stay in Lanzarote three times a year. Matagorda is a lovely quiet area, but only a mile away from the busiest place too..

Have a look on Alpharooms or HolidayNights, they have lots of choice on there.

Golf Del Sur - in San D'abona in Tenerife is lovely part of the island. I have stayed at The Palms golf and country club and also The Santa Barbara Golf & Ocean Club which is on the sea front and very nice.

We stayed here www.dreamplacehotels.com/en/hotel-castillo-papagayo/ and it was amazing - can't recommend it highly enough. :)

Gloria Palace Amadores in Gran Canaria- BEAUTIFUL! Set on a cliff edge, overlooking a horse shoe bay. Luckily (!!) several miles away from the town (forgot it's name!) that's looks like it could be an alternative for the next series of Benidorm!! Wink

The food is great and above all the service is fab- VERY family friendly!!

goingbacktowork · 13/03/2011 22:17

What has "old thread" got to do with it? Hmm

I am looking to see in more detail what the hotels actually have to do for kids. It seems to me that lots say they are kid friendly but what that means varies hugely.

sensatori for example. I can't even get thomson (who own it) to tell me what the kids club actually offers - all very vague

mumbar · 14/03/2011 06:59

Thats fine, well feel free to ask me any questions then. As I say I lived and worked there 6 years.

loopsngeorge · 14/03/2011 12:34

Sorry to butt in but we are looking for the same kind of thing, for October half term. We have a 6 year old and a two year old who love mini discos in the evening! Looking for something that will have some facilities eg. playground for the two year old...

Mumbar - do you have any thoughts on these places?
Fuerteventura Princess - looks great but bit worried it will be too isolated with nowhere to stroll to and nothing much for the two year old...
Barcelo Castillo Beach, Fuerteventura
Riu Vistamar, Gran Canaria
Taurito Palace, Gran Canaria

goingbacktowork - have you tried Tripadvisor? There are lots of threads about Sensatori on there. The kids facilities as described in the brochure look fantastic - unfortunately a bit out of our budget for half term but maybe one day!

mumbar · 15/03/2011 19:40

Sorry I don't know the other Islands, only Tenerife and La Gomera.

Tenerife is fairly hilly in places and I would imagine all the Canary Islands are - they are just volcanos after all. Grin

What I can say is watch the wording in brochures - short walk 'down' to the beach/shops often suggests its on a hill, look for words like 'along' and 'to the'.
