AIBU to think it's a bit stupid to notify someone that their broadband is now active via email?

I've had this now twice. First with a day long subscription thing, where in order to activate it, you had to go to a link on your email (which of course you couldn't check because you didn't have internet Hmm) and now, my broadband provider has been a complete genius and done the same - told me my broadband's been activated via email AND told me that if I have problems, I can check their website.

How exactly?!

Oh, and to top it all off, I called their helpline yesterday as I had seen that the broadband light was on. useless guy on the phone said "oh no, your broadband can't possibly be active yet. It says that it won't be active until 8th Sept", whereas - it was, and the email from the company saying it was active was sent on the 6th.

STUPID INTERNET COMPANIES.

Our IT Manager once sent a group email to tell us that email was back up, after it had crashed spectacularly. After a couple of hours someone knocked on his door and said 'is email back yet?' he said

'Yes, how come you don't know, I sent an.......ohhhhh....ermmmm Blush'

I tell you what's more stupid

Telling someone that you are investigating their broadband fault (no broadband) and giving regular updates...

...by email!

Yes. BT strikes again.

Not half as stupid as to email someone their final bill after they had their broadband disconnected via email.

Yes, Virgin Media, I mean YOU Angry

Man, I thought it was only BTFOn or whatever it is and PlusNet. Seems there's mass stupidity out there.

for the first one as well, there was no helpline you could call - they had a very helpful website (which again, couldn't access).

I'm not going to take Virgin Media apart here, because although they messed up big time, they also eventually got it right in a big way too.

However, when our phone was down for 2 weeks and the engineer failed to appear for an appointment I was told that they "had been trying to ring me to let me know, but we couldn't get through".

Purleez ...

Waltons - I had similar from Virgin - they were late connecting my phone - as in "We'll be there before 1pm" and then "We'll be there before 7pm" while I waited in all day.

Eventually they turned up at 8.30pm and said that they had left message for me - on the phone that they hadn't connected yet... Shock Hmm
