to think this could be neglectful?

I am a complete hypocrite about this but...

I found this.
Do you think consulting an online GP rather than seeing one in person is responsible?

My own children have barely seen their GP. The few occasions I have taken them (three times for dd1 5, once for dd2 3 - never for ds1 and2) - have been when I've been on maternity leave. I have a much lower threshold for seeking help/advice when I am at home but when I am working I just muddle on through and find will put things off until (so far at least) they get better on their own.

I think SAHM probably take their children to the GP more than WOHM.

I guess the question is when does never taking them become an issue....

In my defence I have never dosed a child up with calpol in order to drop them off at nursery and pretend all is well - although I know plenty of colleagues who have.

Gets Popcorn, shuts DD in cupboard with Calpol.

why would you think that sahm mums tgake their kids to the doctor more often??

what a generalisation! presumably because all we do is sit around with nothing better to do?
Hmm

i can't even remember the last time i saw our gp with any of the children

anyway, i don't see that this is any different than talking to one on the phone, which plenty of people do, or using NHS direct

LOL Jodiesmummy

I'm not suggesting SAHM have nothing better to do - but can be more flexible with their time - that's all.

Everytime Ive taken DD to the doctors she has perked right up by the time we are in the queue at the Chemist and she sees the lollies. And I work full time. And I have to come out of work to take DD to the doctors if necessary. I certainly dont dose her up with Calpol and shove her off to childcare.

lal123 · 07/09/2010 13:13

I'm usually a WOHM - but on maty leave at the minute. When it comes to my children's health I can be as flexible with my time as necessary, work always comes second

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 07/09/2010 13:13

sounds crazy if your kids are sick sod work and take them!

yesway · 07/09/2010 13:15

Jodiesmummy - you have reminded me of a time when I got back from work to collect ds1 who was feverish. I was on such a guilt trip for not being there that when I saw a blotchy rash on his legs I whisked him straight to A + E. The rash was that marbled look you get when you are cold...

I'm a SAHM. When I get bored, my 1st thought isn't to take my kids to the doctors. Hmm

Tbh, her kid would have more symptoms if it was leaukemia. My ds gets frequent nosebleeds but it's due to his hayfever. In my non medical judgement, the kids probably has an allergy!

Oh & calpol doesn't touch my kids, I have to use Ibuprofin. Grin

Medised used to be great to get them to sleep though Wink Now it's only for over 6's Shock

JodiesMummy · 07/09/2010 13:17

I thought DD had swine flu once and spoke to a doctor on the phone who told me to come straight into the surgery - throught the FIRE EXIT so the other patients didnt catch a sight of my stricken child! He practically examined her at arms length and then said, no its OK she doesnt have it. After worrying me to death!
