I just want to rant really i suppose!

On friday night our water tank somehow managed to crack, and it flooded our bathroom and landing which obviously meant it leaked through the kitchen ceiling. it leaked so bad that the plaster has started falling off the ceiling. we are in a housing association house so i phoned them but it was out of hours so i spoke to the out of hours emergency guys who said they would send someone round, so saturday at 11am this plumber comes round, says he cant fix it and turns the water off! its still leaking because the valve is broken so turning the water off didnt work but he failed to notice so i phoned them again to be told they would send someone today! the guy came round today and said theyre too busy to fix it now and will come back in a few days, so we have no hot water at all because is spurts out of the tank so obviously not safe to have on and we have to have the whole water supply to the house turned off or the tank keeps filling up cos the valave is broken!

I have 2 young kids at home that need their baths ect. im fuming. surely these plumbers cant be that bloody thick not to realise this needs doing now!

ive complained to our ha, and tomorrow will be complaining to the council but i dont think it will do any good.

Am i being unreasonable for being pissed off at this?? ive given myself a headache now! Angry

YANBU extensive water damage can cause mould spors very quickly and if left can cause damp in your plaster board.

Is it worth calling again just to ask how long you will be waiting? I would also contact you HA asking about compensation or what there planning on doing about the damage done?

In a similar situation, I told the HA that I'd be contacting Social Services as I believed they (the HA) were causing a welfare risk to my DC.
They said that 'technically' they had up to three days to repair - but turned up within half an hour!

Take photo's if you can, then call the Environmental Health department of your local council, they can force the HA to act in the best interests of tenants, wrt health and safety.

just got a letter this morning saying it will be fixed in four weeks!!! fucking useless

You really need to escalte this, I'd write a complaint to your HA and advise them that you'll be taking it to the Independent Housing Ombudsman if their internal complaints procedure doesn't resolve this satisfactorily, I'd also tell them you are taking advice on compensation.

YANBU!

tillyfernackerpants · 08/09/2010 19:35

Yanbu, I'd go to your local paper tbh. There's been loads of stories in ours recently about HA been useless at getting things fixed.

dingdongmrs · 11/09/2010 10:46

ive spent the last few days on the phone complaining to our ha,the plumbers, and the council but still nothing has been done. we have collected aroung 50 litres of water in the last 3 days (catching it in buckets) so its not only that this needs fixing but we're wasting so much water! i will be going to our local paper on monday.
