That advert makes we want to shout at the tv!! Also the new one from Vanish about killing all the germs in your laundry..... Angry.

I wonder if we'll ever get over this obsession of germs??!

PS - I own a loo brush too Shock!!!

Honeydragon · 06/09/2010 13:20

Grin @ Squeaver

JannerBird · 06/09/2010 13:29

FFS - what's the obsession with germs? Surely there are more important things to be worrying about?

MistsandMellowMilady · 06/09/2010 13:35

My Mum (pensioner) and my sister (lone parent on benefits) are utterly convinced by the bloody rip off product.

DD is not and once took the time to patiently explain to the lady who was demonstrating them in Sainsbury's in front of several interested customers Grin

tanmu82 · 06/09/2010 13:40

my DS asked me to buy one just yesterday.... not ruddy likely! And I'm the kids of person who puts paper down on the toilet seat before using public loos , then uses a tissue to turn off the taps and open the door to leave..... note: I don't do this at home or at (clean) family and friends' houses.....

3Trees · 06/09/2010 13:43

Like I said, they are widly expensive (I have not paid full price for mine) but I do have to say that we have saved a lot of soap since we got it - ds now uses soap appropriately, and does not spend ages squirting soap everywhere but on his hands - and DH seems more able not to trail soap around the sink.

I agree that we don't need it for teh germ purposes, but I do like it.

tanmu82 · 06/09/2010 13:52

I buy the supermarket's own brand liquid soap - and the kids have been instructed to use only one squirt per wash. I could probably buy more than half a years worth of this soap and still not pay as much as for one of these soap dispenser thingies..... and bars of soap are even cheaper still

roomonthebroom · 06/09/2010 13:54

:o @ mammaries. My DD sings the same song, but thankfully gets the words right. However, she still insists on asking for 'cock porn' at the cinema!

massivemammaries · 06/09/2010 14:00

LMFAO

wb - that is exactly my logic too. You are about to wash your hands so who cares what you touch just moments before.

I have a friend who works for a consumer goods company that makes soaps, shampoo, nappies, wipes, laundry products etc.

He is a cynical jaded soul now but the things that his young product development teams dream up get us to buy stuff is even beyond his diminished sense of propriety.

Interestingly, he says everyone who works there always just wants to know when and where the next major price discount drive is going to be launched for a particular product and then they all just go and buy in bulk. Its the only thing that really matters. He says the products are all virtually identical anyway and this constant launching of new products is only about a constant war of attrition between the manufacturers over tiny slivers of market sare and some executives next bonus/promotion - it is not for our benefit.

wildfig · 06/09/2010 14:11

My DP came back from the supermarket proudly bearing one of these 'as a gift'. My reaction was exactly the same as above. I think it's actually aimed at men, as well as wipe-clean-wackadoo types: he seems fascinated by the dzzzz noise it makes as it dispenses the soap.

Now I use it after I've been out to bag dog poo from the garden and yes, sometimes I am quite glad I don't have to touch anything first.

[hates self for being suckered in to buying the probably very expensive refills]

tokyonambu · 06/09/2010 15:58

All the usual caveats about Wikipedia, but at least the references are good.

massivemammaries · 06/09/2010 18:37

@wildfig ...... if you like it, you havn't been suckered, but DH got it for novelty value , not for his "anti-germy soap pump" views

I knew this guy who was paranoid that body hair harboured germs ..... he shaved all his body hair twice a day from head to toe

ChippingIn · 06/09/2010 18:59

Tanmu82 - I could tell you that it takes 27 layers of toilet paper to provide you with a barrier from germs.... but I wont.

Blu · 06/09/2010 19:00

BeerTricksPotter - I do those things in public toilets (should I Blush?) but I still wouldn't buy something as illogical as this device!

MamaVoo · 06/09/2010 19:07

YANBU, but having seen the hysteria on the toilet brush thread it doesn't suprise me.

massivemammaries · 06/09/2010 19:11

@MamaVoo yeah the toilet brush thread was Fab .... so much so that I launched a thread about Shit being disgusting!

OP posts:
tanmu82 · 07/09/2010 10:48

ChippinIn is that really true?! Why so many? Is that because the toilet paper is permeable? OMG now you have doomed me to counting layers of loo paper on seats......It's alright for me, I can crouch, but my DC's can't yet!Back when I was a teenager, I was with a friend in McDonalds and we went to the loos. When we came out of the cubicles, she whispered "don't you hate it when that happens" I asked her what she meant and she said "when you sit in someone else's wee" I looked at her as though she were mad - who doesn't check the seat first and either put paper down or crouch?!?!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 07/09/2010 10:55

I haven't seen the adverts (only get BBC 1+2) but I'd like something that hangs off the wall. We have a tiny, really tiny sink in the downstairs toilet and there isn't room for a bar of soap or liquid soap to be there and turn the tap on. Currently the soap is on top of the toilet but someone (DD) keeps knocking it onto the floor and not picking it upAngry

esselle · 07/09/2010 12:46

kreecher You just need soap on a rope!

hystericalmum · 07/09/2010 13:26

Do you not all go our wearing radiation suits & face masks then? oh.

I was going to start a thread saying AIBU to expect people not to stare at me while wearing above getup.
