In thinking that life is really cruel sometimes

Earlier this evening my dd aged 6 who is paralysed from the waist down, was reading a kiddy magazine which had a height chart on it with a pic of a child standing up.

She said to me "when will I be able to stand" Sad

How do you tell a young child that they will never walk or stand, its just so unfair Sad

I hope you said - of course he can Grin

Tia now wants a rat, donkey, cow and chicken, she is never satisfied Shock she has loads of pets.

Is it bad that I would have let him stay in, but DP put his foot downBlush

Yes it is bad - DH needs to lift his foot a bit Grin

I used to house sit for a friend - the cat, dog, chickens & goats were allowed to wander in and out of the house as they pleased - the horse & cow didn't bother, but were always sticking their heads through the kitchen window Grin

Another lady I knew had an indoor pig - a HUGE one, it got to the stage where it needed a good shove to get through the doorway when it wanted in and out.

So, yes, I think he's being completely unreasonable.....

....but kind of 'normal' Wink

LOL at the meneamgerie (sp?) in Tia's bedroom!!! She sounds like a character. LMAO trying to imagine this tiny pony listening to a bedtime story with a 6yo.

The car seats and trikes are ridicously expensive aren't they. Do you have the car seat that turns on its base?

Will you get a roll on/ off vehicle soon. You could pack up Tia, the dog and the pony for a day out Grin

I had a thought about the height chart. I know the question she asked was about standing - but if you got a roll of paper (wallpaper is good as its stronger) she could lay on it and mark her height at a date. She could draw pictures of what she likes at the age or write a sentence/ get you to write it stick pictures etc. You could get it out and keep measuring her and adding things to log her height and changing interests. Lovely to look back at and all the memories.

We have just got a new mobility car in June and we didn't need an adapted one yet but we probably will next time we renew.

Yes Tia has the car seat which turns which makes life easier with regards to getting her in and out.

Thats a really good idea actually as we could use stickers of characters she is into at the time as well, and pics of herself so she can look back in time.

The pets that we have we got as stimulation for Tia, to date we have 2 dogs, 2 ponies, 5 cats, 2 cockatiels, a bearded dragon, a leopard gecko, a tortoise, a rabbit, a hamster and a Boa constrictor which she loves, tis more like a zoo though Grin

I was going to suggest you lay her on the floor and use the chart to measure her that way, then put it on the wall showing thats how tall she is, is that a terrible idea??

anyone suggested whizzkidz yes life deals some people a rotten deal.any local groups to meet other wheelchair kids that physio or ot can link you into?

mumbar · 07/09/2010 20:13

oh yes zoo why didn't I think of that - I can spell that.

If it helps IKEA do a great roll of paper.

nbee84 · 07/09/2010 20:31

"I remember one yr he wanted to do the sack race for sports day (usually school would cobble something together with his eyegaze thingy or he'd do a race in his wheelchair ) so the teachers got him into a sack somehow and ran with him, all the kids who were in the race kept up with him, and the ones who finished hopped back to support him. (whilst us parents blubbed our eyes out)"

This had me blubbing! I almost couldn't bring myself to watch Tia's video, but I'm glad I did. No tears - she looks so happy and is a beautiful little girl. You must be a very proud Mummy Grin
