DH and I have just had a disagreement and he has gone to work.

Over a year ago fred told me a secret about freda. It is a BIG secret and I promised not to tell. However it was too big and I had to so I told Bob who promised to keep it secret.

This was really bad of me and I know that and feel terrible.

Bob let it slip so I pretended I made it up. Freda's daughter Freya has just found out about it and has private messaged me on FB to have a go at me for "making up something so sick". DH read it and has reported her to FB. She thinks I spread it round everyone. Apparently everyone now hates me.

The way I see it I didn't keep the secret so ] I deserve to be had a go at even though I didn't make it up, and its better for her to think I made it up, as I have now moved away and them hating me doesn't impact my life, than to tell her it was true.

DH says I shouldn't put up with being spoken to like that for something I didn't do. He said that my involvement was small and that Bob, Fred and Freda should take the flak.

Opinions please!

The whole thing rests on what the secret was, I guess. Ahem.

Ooh, I am going to go against the grain and say that if you do not want a secret out then don't tell anyone in the first place. No point blaming you as Fred obviously couldn't keep it to himself either.

I am assuming that Freya didn't tell Fred. If she did then it's her fault, not yours or Fred.

No seriously, your DH is right. You should maybe feel a bit bad, but really they shouldn't have shared with you if it was that big a secret.

Why do people get annoyed with others for sharing their secret when they obviously couldn't keep it to themselves?

Is this a soap plot?
