to (secretly) want to dress DD like a little mini-me?

I don't mean matching outfits or anything, just that now that she's not a teeny newborn, I prefer her in clothes that look more like small versions of things I might wear (e.g. leggings, (comfy/stretchy) jeans, T shirts, cardigans), rather than endless cutesy pink things with fluffy cartoon characters on. She's still only 6 months.. am I being really naff?

personally I like babies dressed as babies but YANBU to want to dress your dd how YOU want to dress her.

BelleDameSansMerci · 04/09/2010 23:14

I wanted my DD to do the tutu skirt, tights and boots thing. She absolutely will not wear anything like this but prefers to dress more like me albeit in rather more girly dresses. She prefers dresses (as do I) and, if wearing trousers, tends to go for leggings. She is only 3 but the only tantrums she has ever thrown are when I've wanted her to wear something she doesn't like.

So, YANBU IMO. I'd say dress her in what you like while you can - she'll have her own opinions soon enough!

hairytriangle · 04/09/2010 23:15

Yeah you are being naff. Babies look silly in those kinds of clothes!

BusyMissIzzy · 04/09/2010 23:15

You're right about the "dressing babies as babies" thing. I think that, to me, she already looks so much more grown up than she used to, if that makes sense. She's already changed so much! But to anyone else she still looks like a little baby.

depends.do you were jeggings and uggs.not good look for baby

Jaybird37 · 04/09/2010 23:17

Clicked on here thinking I was going to completely disagree, but totally with you on the pink fluffy stuff and mainly not keen on cartoon characters. Babies in dresses look pretty silly to me too.

On the other hand I do generally hate the mini-me look, a la Katie Holmes or clothes which are too grown up.

Dione · 04/09/2010 23:17

My DS often comments on how he and I dress the sameBlush.

BusyMissIzzy · 04/09/2010 23:18

(Photos on my profile btw; I'm not putting her in mini-Uggs or leather jackets or anything!)

Grin sm I quite like her in jeggings (even if typing the word jeggings gives me hives). They're comfy, and denim goes with everything; what's not to like? Wink

scottishmummy · 04/09/2010 23:20

ach,jeggings are bogin,bset accessorised wiv a fag & dug.not a wee wean

MistsandMellowMilady · 04/09/2010 23:21

I like babies in comfy clothes so leggings and cardigans and loose smocks are great if you want to bother.

I didn't and my two, DS and DD, lived in all-in-one cotton in summer (or short rompers) and fleece in winter day or night. With extra bits when outside of course and blankets etc

The most puke-making thing DD was ever given was a really tight denim skirt made for babies who couldn't yet sit up. WTF? I wouldn't let her wear something that slutty and she's ten now.

I bet your DD looks really lovely actually Smile

mumbar · 04/09/2010 23:22

You are right about dc's seeming older to the parent than they are/ appear to others.

There are some lovely leggings and top sets on the high street at the mo that are both practical/ fashionable and age appropriate iyswim. TBH leggings are perfect for babies learning to move around the floor, crawl etc and are easily replaced when the knees wear out Grin

Like I said I like the 'baby' look leggings sets personally but perhaps you get the best of both worlds with these. Wink

oliviacrumble · 04/09/2010 23:26

Just clicked on your profile, your DD looks adorable!

Exquisitely dressed too...

lemonysweet · 04/09/2010 23:28

i hate cartoon character or slogan tees or just tees with really naff designs on them. i hate kids clothes. mine all lived in leggings or trousers and stripey tshirts when they were younger.

mamatomany · 04/09/2010 23:32

I think everyone does it, I dress quite smartly most of the times and when I used to get a say in what the kids wore it was all monsoon dresses, joules tops, boden outfits rather than say Next or Zara.

Unfortunately now their friends have more influence, so enjoy it whilst you can I say.

scottishmummy · 04/09/2010 23:34

never consciously dressed kids like me.they wear what clean
