I am just watching catch up of Baby Beauty Queens and was shocked at the amound of make up this little girl called Leanne was wearing. Foundation, eyeliner, mascara. She said that without make up she did not look pretty, that she feels better with make up on Sad. The mum supports this and ecourages her daughter to wear heavy make up nearly all the time. She said that she was like her daughters best friend not her mum. Hello you are her mum so act like one, you can only be her best friend once she is an adult.

The messages that her mum is sending out is that appearence is everything, that you are not pretty without make up. Her gran said that times are changing and didn't see a problem with children caring about their appearence. This girl went to her friends 11th party, she took 3 hours to get ready, she chose a really short mini skirt, and was the only child there looking like dear I say it a little lolita with full make up on.

I just feel very sad at this, the little girl is only 8 and should not matter what she looks like.

YABU in watching this kind of shite tv.

YANBU in the fact that she is 8 and should not be caring about her looks.

The world is a strange and twisted place.

i watched this to and was like this Shock throughout!

what i hated the most was that the little sister was pushed out until she started to like wearing makeup to and only then was she 'part' of the family!

she didnt look like she felt comfatable at the party, like she felt out of place and was terrible that they had spent all that time getting ready, kids of 8 should be out riding there bikes and playing at the park!

you could also tell that the mothers friends didnt agree with it, when they were sitting at the table drinking coffee, it was like they were all daring each other to say something!

{reminds myself not to watch yuk trash telly}

sallyseton · 02/09/2010 00:00

The clue's in the title, so yabu to be shocked!

These programs are only created to wind us up and let us sit with our judgeypants on watching. It's BBC3, don't take it seriously!

sallyseton · 02/09/2010 00:02

Also remember not to underestimate the amount of scenes in these documentaries that are just invented! Healthy skepticism is needed.

sallyseton · 02/09/2010 00:03

Sorry, that should be "documentaries" !

pigletmania · 02/09/2010 00:05

I was Shock, my mouth hit the floor and i was treading on it. There are parents out there that do that. It was horrible that the 4 year old sister was sidlined and was inevitably forced to wear it to be part of the family Sad. The mum said that she did not force her, she wanted to do it herself. Oh she the mum who puts all her feelings of confidence and self worth onto her child and who will not go out without make up on, of course the child will copy it. She has a hand in it herself, even though she thinks that she did not.

[whispers] Piglet, I watched it too! I love watching trash on bbc3... I was shocked because normally the dressing up / make-up is just for pageants and competitions but this poor girl seemed to wear it all the time in real life. She did look so sexualised I found it quite disturbing - made me think of that Let Girls be Girls Campaign - her mum seemed to be pushing her to look like a drag queen.

sue52 · 02/09/2010 09:06

I watched it with my DDs. DD2 age 14, was shocked when the little girl was sprayed orange by her mother. All three of us sat and judged, I'm ashamed to say.

Morloth · 02/09/2010 13:31

Just watched it as well, saddest part was those pudgy toddler hands rubbing in foundation towards the end.

It is ironic as well, quite a beautiful child made to look like a street walker.

funkybuddah · 02/09/2010 13:48

I think people saying 'why are you watching that trash/shite 'need to wind their necks in, stop being so smug.

But 8 year olds do sometimes care what they look like I know my ds does.
however that mum was ridiculous, stupid woman and poor kids, I noticed that she had some pimple type blemishes presumably caused by make up.

Rafi · 02/09/2010 13:57

My 9 year old cares what she looks like funkybuddah, but for her that means wearing a pretty hairband & making sure her clothes go together - I'd guess your ds is on the same sort of level? That's normal I think but this other stuff is just wrong. Didn't see the programme but it sounds horrible Sad

Stupid parents.
Have a bottle of cop-on and share it with your kids.

mumeeee · 02/09/2010 16:19

YANBu, Lots of make up ids very bad for young skins, Also an 8 year old should not be worrying about how they look.

funkybuddah · 02/09/2010 17:58

Rafi, yeah thats what I mean, DS Likes to have certain style of shoes for example and this week has opted for a shorter hairstyle rather than a longer one.

But yes I did mean that the amount of makeup used was awful, at that age I had make up but it was play make up and I didnt go out of the house in it.

The whole thing was uncomfortable regarding the younger girl, and I cant believe the mother got her foundation!! Why not just some of the 'glitter babes' style stuff from boots that is glittery lip and eye gloss, rather than proper makeup!

SirBoobAlot · 02/09/2010 20:52

I watched this on iPlayer. I felt angry, shocked and quite sick all at once, especially when her mum was spraying her with fake tan. Feel really quite sorry for the children, having such attitudes drilled into them by their mother :(

zoelikesjam · 07/09/2010 23:21

YANBU

I watched it this afternoons on me' skies+ Normally i think the beauty pagents are cute providing the kids want to do it and aren't pushed. However this little girl was wearing crap on her face all the time apart from school. She said she gets in and piles it on Shock
I watched it with my soon to be 6year old daughter and, she suprised me.
She's a girly girl. Pink pink pink, cares about her clothes and has an array of makeup. It is however just a touch of blusher, eyeshadow, lip gloss and glitter. She wears it when dressing up.
Even she thought it was OTT. Couldn't believe the foundation. Her beautiful skin being clogged up by rubbish.
She will have terrible skin as a teenager :(
