hes got home tonight, and told me i really should be able to cut the lawns, i guess it would take about 45 mins, as i'm at home allday.
[sahm]

he was going to the gym tonight, which he seems to have time for.

so should i be doing the grass cutting while looking after a 3 year old?

I have to put DS outside when I hoover (hates the noise) and inside when I cut the grass. He is not the sort of child who will destroy the house when left to his own devices though - he is a pretty well-behaved child.

I do sort of understand the hoovering now TBM but it is slightly bonkers :o

I hate the whole mans/womens work crap - it basically means men don't have to do any of the day to day stuff and just have to do the once a week things, giving them a very good excuse to sit on their arses the rest of the time

MollysChambers · 01/09/2010 22:33

Definitey a man job. Along with putting out bins and washing the car.

YANBU - Being a SAHM doesn't mean you have to do EVERYTHING ffs. While he swans off to the gym Hmm Cheeky bugger.

Jannamummy · 01/09/2010 22:37

Totally agree, Manjob. Putting out bins also Manjob. And buying stuff from B&Q, painting walls of house and getting rid of spiders.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 01/09/2010 22:39

DH does the grass, and the cars, and 90% of the cooking (only atm because I am pg and can't bear the smell - normally it's 50/50), and the bins. I do most of the cleaning and tidying because I'm here during the day to do it.

So YANBU.

QuickLookBusy · 01/09/2010 22:39

YANBU!!

I think it would be really dangerous to mow a lawn with a 3 year old in tow.

Its so noisy you wouldnt know what your DC was up to!

Tell your hubby that he doesnt need to go to the blooming gym-get pushing that lawn mower instead! Grin

Squitten · 01/09/2010 22:39

I have never mowed our lawn because, quite frankly, I don't care about it! DH, on the other hand, does care so he does it.

Just because you're at home doesn't mean he can't do it!

Portofino · 01/09/2010 22:39

Def a man job in our house (along with hoovering and putting bins out and loading dishwasher). We both work ft out of the house though.

LadyBiscuit · 01/09/2010 22:40

So by that token are looking after children/washing floors/cooking/cleaning women's jobs?

Are you all Tania Ramsey or something? Confused

QuickLookBusy · 01/09/2010 22:47

No LADY I am not Tania[shudders at the thought of grubby gordon}, but I am a 5ft 3 weakling and my hubby is a 6ft rugby type, so I dont see why I should be out there pushing a heavy, large lawn mower for an hour. Grin

Tortoise · 01/09/2010 22:48

DD2 hated the mower noise when she was around 2. In the middle of the summer, hot day, grass needed doing (single Mum, no one else to do it) i put her in the back carrier and cut the lawn with her on my back! Did this more than once that summer, not fun but no choice!

cece · 01/09/2010 22:48

I mowed my lawn on Monday with DS2 aged 15 months playing in the garden. My lawn is quite large and it takes about an hour. It is doable imo but sounds like you think he should be doing it.

Mspontipine · 01/09/2010 22:50

One of the reason I have a non-power push type - no fingers flying here - I love mowing the lawn :)

Now hoovering and washing up.....Blush

MollysChambers · 01/09/2010 22:59

Nope Lady. Not Tana Ramsay. But mowing the lawn is one of the few things I can get DH to take responsibilty for. And washing the cars. He never remembers to put the bin out. And basically I do everything else [sigh].

JudyPink · 01/09/2010 23:00

My DP wouldn't even let me anywhere near a lawnmower! Wink

MollysChambers · 01/09/2010 23:04

Oh, he does barbecque. That is also a Manjob. And deals with beasties. And "fixes thing" round the house. And speaks to tradesmen (cos they make me feel stupid). Maybe he's not that bad after all Grin

LadyBiscuit · 01/09/2010 23:04

Clearly not a total waste of space then Wink

MollysChambers · 01/09/2010 23:06

He's quite good at sex too. But that's a friday night thread Wink

MollysChambers · 01/09/2010 23:07

Apologies for lowering the tone....

EightiesChick · 01/09/2010 23:09

Hmmm, not a woman/man job split so much as a 'but you're at home all day, surely you can paint the whole house / prepare a formal banquet for 12 people sort through 17 boxes of intricate paperwork / solve the problems of the Middle East'. Often this rests on an assumption that you don't have much to do as stay-at-home parent so this has to be firmly repelled.

Oh Gah ! Today I put bin out and went to B&Q and bought paint to do DD1's kitchen and then caught a mahoosive spider . I am obviously a man.

MollysChambers · 01/09/2010 23:11

Trumpton - that's the trouble with manjobs though - sometimes the men don't bloody do them...

MollysChambers · 01/09/2010 23:12

Eightieschick - Speak to me about repelling this notion....

listenandlearn · 01/09/2010 23:16

i cut the grass here with three kids one being 3yrs old, always have (been on my own)and toddler dosent like the noise so he has no choice and goes inside

no way am i not cutting the lawn cos i have a toddler about and when your single parent you dont have the choice, alas as with most things in that situation

though your right about stones, must have missed one and flew up and smashed my patio door (had safety glass) a month ago so a costly mistake, girls use that as an exscuse if you really dont fancy doing it.lol

Iwishiwasasleep · 01/09/2010 23:27

Get a ride-on lawnmower!! Great fun and DC can sit on your lap.
