AIBU to complain about the advertising for a bank account

Basically, I got shares through work, and because I'm interested in diversifying my investment portfolio (read - worked out how much I would have to live on for my work pension, and freaked out). So, I opened up a stockbroking account in order to hold the shares and to invest in the market when I have some spare money, which is all great fun and hunky dory (apart from my stupid investment last week which dropped about 70% in ten minutes - I'm obviously not going to become a star trader anytime soon).

But - all the advertising I get for this account (and there's a lot) is male-oriented; it's all about team sports, being aggressive and during the World Cup, every advert was football related. Obviously, I don't mean that sports and competition is the sole preserve of men, but the tone of the adverts seems (to me) to indicate that they think only men would consider opening a stockbroking account. Which is obviously bollocks. AIBU?

YANBU at all. Really pisses me off when advertising is so skewed (in either direction). Complain & let us know the response.

So I take it your both going to complain to MumsNet about all the female targeted averts on here as well?

Hmm. It's a toughie.

I'm not sure you have a valid complaint really if their market research (which they no doubt spend a fortune on) leads them to think that their target market are mainly alpha male types.

I can see why it's grating, but adverts do tend to be pigeonholed towards a certain market, usually with good reason I suppose.

Nope, because MN (the hint is in the name) is generally targeted at woman - it's obviously normal for advertisers to have a target audience.

They know I'm a woman (by my name), and as this is a bank account required by my employers, I can presume that it's not just men who have these accounts. I guess it annoys me because every advert is so alpha male oriented.

And, I get about two/three email ads from them a week. All aimed at men.
