to be just fed up that we can't seem to go a month without dd getting some sort of cold/chest infection?

Yes I know it's just a cold/chest infection and the odd bout of pneumonia and I should get some perspective, but seriously, Why can't we go just one freaking month without catching something.

And if one more GP tells me how great her antibodies will be when she starts school, I'll scream. They are bloody awful now.

it probably isn't any consolation but my dd was sick all the time when she was small. Scarlet fever, tonsilitis again and again and again. Never mind colds.

She is 9 now and she very rarely gets sick. Maybe once a year. I think when your dd starts school, it may even get a bit worse befroe it gets better what will th stress of it all and being with so many other dc who get sent to school with colds.

It does get better eventually though, honestly it does!

sapphireblue · 27/08/2010 07:08

Sad how old is DD? We have permanent colds in our house it seems too!

ZZZenAgain · 27/08/2010 07:12

after dd had grommets (glue ear) it got a lot better

Desperatelyseekinginspiration · 27/08/2010 07:14

She's 2 today and has a stinking cough and cold. The cough sounds like we will probably end up on antibiotics again. It's only a few weeks since she was on them for a lower resp tract infection.

I sympathise with you desperately - we're the same. DH and I are both teachers so had a long 3 weeks away in Scotland just now. No sniffles of any sort, back at nursery just last week and the girls' noses are streaming again, then DH and I go back to work next week and we'll get the germs from work, pass them on to our DCs and it'll be one big snot-fest in our house until about, oh, May next year? :(

Desperatelyseekinginspiration · 27/08/2010 07:15

I keep wondering if it's somehow my fault. Am I not wrapping her up enough or something?

at nursery what I have seen is kids go there with snot streaming out their noses sometimes, wipe it with the back of their hand and pick up a toy.

There you go. Often with a virus dp don't notice the first couple of days so by the time they withdraw the dc, others have already been infected.

Nothing you can do in those kind of situations really. Apart from seeing to it they have a healthy diet, get plenty of exercise, drink enough and get a good night's sleep you're stuck with it I'm afraid.

Desperately - my DD was like this at that age, it was very wearing...now at 3.10 she very rarely gets anything..it does get better.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 27/08/2010 07:26

Hope I am not sounding like the GP who makes you scream though!

Desperatelyseekinginspiration · 27/08/2010 07:29

Smile No for some reason I am more willing to believe it from other Mnetters than from the GP.

My DD used to get colds/ear infections/sickness and diarrhoea at least every month, now she seems as strong as an ox. Smile

ZZZenAgain · 27/08/2010 07:38

I used to spend so much time at the GP with dd. Last year I took her once

bliss. It took till she was about 8 for the ox-like consitution to develop. She was a hard case.

My GP always used to say the same about her having a brilliant immune system one day and I found it hard to believe too. Fingers crossed we are sorted now.

spiritmum · 27/08/2010 07:45

Desperately, I do sympathise, my three have all been like this. I di dblame myself but realy it's just part of life. My dd1 got nothing in Reception but then had loads of time off in yrs 1 and 2 but not in yr 3. Dd2 was the sickliest to the point where she was in and out of hospital but now rarely gets ill at all, and ds is only 4 and hasn't outgrown ear infections yet.

I also think the v. odd weather we have at the moment isn't helping, lots of people are going down with things you normally see in the autumn/winter.

Oblomov · 27/08/2010 08:01

ds1 was like this. every snotty nose and conjunctivitus going. never anything serious. but constant. he was never ill as such, so i sent him to nursery, snotty nosed and all.i blamed nursery. but it went on for a very short time. and now that kid is never ill. gp commented that he hadn't been seen for 2 years , and when he had it was only for conjunctivitus eye drops !!
hope this turns out to be the same for your dd.

Oblomov · 27/08/2010 08:04

i know it wants to make you scream, but it is the truth. this is just a phase. and it helps.to improve their immunity. not for all, i'm sure, but most. just v v irritating at the time.

Pixieonthemoor · 27/08/2010 13:51

Oh no I know just how you feel - quite often, I just feel like putting a tent in the docs waiting room and staying put. From last Nov to the end of Feb, one or more of us was ill constantly. It just felt like we were in a boxing ring and just as we were getting to our feet we would be floored by something else. Just had to roll with the punches in the end but I am dreading the up-coming coughs/colds/vom bug season. What is up with that btw - when I was little, it was not the rule that it-is-winter-therefore-you-will-vomit. Why is it like that now?? Why why??? Good luck with it all.
