I know it has it's downsides but isn't it just brilliant how easily you can keep in touch with people? Have just chatted to a mate from primary school, a relative on the other side of the world and nosied looked at pics of a distant acquaintance's sister's wedding Grin

And I love seeing status updates, too. I like knowing who is hungry /pissed / happy. Sometimes someone will post a really nice uplifting status, and I like being able to "like" it even tho I haven't seen the person in RL ages!

And no, I'm not pissed / being ironic, I just think Facebook is ace :)

I love Facebook. Well, most of the time. Since joining two years ago I'm back in touch with most of my secondary school and some old friends from childhood. My family on both sides are scattered around the world and I love hearing about the random, silly things they do.

On the other had I do understand about the moaning and the OTT public displays of affection. My cousin and his girlfriend posted photos of their anniversary meal (as in the chicken, the creamy potatoes, the cutlery, the gifts.... ) and girlfriend kept posting updates like, "I love you ....."

I used to play Farmville but deleted it before it took over my life!

Sounds like the people who have problems with facebook really have problems with their friends. Just get rid of people who bug you or hide them.

Bunsouttheoven · 22/08/2010 01:27

I love fb. I love seeing my friends photos, reading their status updates, chatting & enjoying the crack. Like others have said now I am at home with the kids it is a social avenue into the adult world.

Can't understand those who don't like it, they can't have very nice, funny or interesting friends! Especially makes me chuckle that mumsnetters would be critical of it, that seems ironic to me.

Any road, as with all things if you don't like it then don't do it! But for me I love it for the drama & mundanity, oh & of course the scrabble!

Bunsouttheoven · 22/08/2010 01:32

Meant also to say my soul if fully intact but thanks for the dire warning poshwellies.

superv1xen · 22/08/2010 09:39

hahaha seaturtle i cant believe that someone you know actually posted pics of their anniversary meal.... Biscuit

it makes me laugh as well when people are on holiday, on nights out etc and they are posting constant updates about what a great time they are having, well i am sorry but if they were having SUCH a great time they wouldnt be on their phones facebooking :o

seaturtle · 22/08/2010 17:16

Superv1xen - remember showing the album to my mum and having a good laugh over it. As if the world wanted to see close up photos of a bowl of scalloped potatoes, chicken breasts, folded cloth napkins, the inside of a vomit inducing anniversary card and the cheesy grins on their faces as they proudly wore their personalized silver necklace (his pet name for her written in silver) and a fancy watch. I also have friends who have updated and posted photos (from earlier in the day I must stress) while on their wedding night. That baffles me.

rockwife · 22/08/2010 18:00

haha my friend got married last week and her new hubby was posting on facebook at 9am the day after they got married, ie the day after their wedding night. Hmm

cardibach · 22/08/2010 18:21

YANBU. I love it too.

Squitten: like you I would "have no time for reading the ramblings of old school "friends" who I haven't seen for 15yrs or more." I just don't have them as friends. I don't have the "500 "friends" that you probably wouldn't recognise if they passed you in the street" either.

All my fb friends are actual friends. I like to know the little details of their lives, especially the ones who live a long way from me.

Southwestwhippet · 22/08/2010 18:28

I love facebook, YANBU. Love reading people's status updates (as long as they aren't too competative/nauseating) and just seeing what other people's lives are like and what they are up to. I like seeing pictures of people's babies/horses/dogs etc

I also like secretly stalking people via facebook. Blush

bluejeans · 22/08/2010 18:50

Another FB fan here!

I have various friends from uni/previous jobs etc scattered around the country or abroad and although I kept in touch with phonecalls and emails pre-facebook, I love reading the little details of their lives and it makes me feel more in touch with them

Have also ended up having conversations with friends-of-friends if we've both commented on the same thing which can be funny.

One lovley friend who's a teacher had lots of colleagues as FB friends and kept writing about in jokes, stuff the kids said etc which got a bit tedious after a while so I hid her updates from my newsfeed - simple!

DH is totally anti-FB, has never been on it and says he never will - feel as if I'm constantly defending it. Funny as he has no problem with me spending half my life quite a lot of time on MN Smile

theslumbertaker · 22/08/2010 19:05

i have a love/hate relationship with it. find it utterly tedious and irritating at times, but can't quite give it up for many of the reasons listed already.

out of interest, how do you hide particular people's updates???? Grin

bluejeans · 22/08/2010 19:20

Click on the X to the right of their update and it will give you the option to 'Hide Person X'

You can also hide Farmville etc in this way Grin

theslumbertaker · 22/08/2010 20:04

thanks bluejeans. benn wondering about that for ages...

NomDePlume · 22/08/2010 20:08

YABU, unless you are 15.

Facebook is for teenagers.

Or stalkers

Ilythia · 22/08/2010 20:13

I love FB. My family and IL's are spread all over the country and this way they can see pictures of DD's when they want and share news.
I went to school in 5 different cities and have found old friends on there for random history chatting which is lovely. I have also found my bff recently whose email I lost and it has been so nice catching up and arranging to meet up soon.

I don't have a million friends though, just proper friends and family and it's all private so I miss out on all the scandalous stuff, I have to go to my mates and read her wall to see all the gossipGrin
