To think recipe magazines in the loo are unsanitary?

As a tangent from the guest thread...

BIL always has a stack of magazines in the loo: Men's Health and suchlike.

He often also has the BBC Good Food magazine there.

Is it wrong to feel a bit icky about eating something he cooks from a mag he read whilst pooing?

I suspect it is.

Surely that wont happen if you close the toilet before you flush it?
but as for reading the recipes in the toilet and then taking to kitchen to prepare - yadnbu it is gross

ynh · 17/08/2010 16:24

PUT THE LID DOWN WHEN YOU FLUSH, FFS! That's what it's FOR!

I don't care if there's a whole library in a loo, what I hate is houses where the lid is clearly never down.

God yes people who don't put the lid down drive me nuts :( and I have baskets full of magazines in the loo and bathrooms it's one of the few places I get undisturbed peace and quiet to read them

MajesticScallop · 17/08/2010 17:40

I think my point was that if you flush in such a way that the germs can reach the books, then the books are actually not adding to the problem. If, on the other hand, you flush in such a way that the germs can't get to the books (i.e. with the lid shut) then obviously the books are not a problem.

So - hooray - there's no reason for anyone to fear having shiterature in their lavvy!!

We always have the lid down at home because otherwise the cats drink out of the toilet Blush.

One of them started doing it and clearly showed the other one how.

I hate any reading material in the loo - but my dh does it!

Flisspaps · 17/08/2010 19:09

YABU - according to HDTHTs link

'If this doesn?t make you wake up and smell the coffee, nothing will: Your kitchen is even more contaminated with bacteria than the toilet bowl. ?That?s why your dog likes to drink out of the toilet,? Gerba says'

He'd be better off reading the mag AND making the meal in the loo Wink

LarkinSky · 17/08/2010 19:14

There must be a better term that shiterature.

I put some (admittedly small in general scheme of things) thought into my loo bookshelf! And if it's the only time I get chance to read snippets of things, it's gotta be semi-good stuff at least.

How about LOOterature?

Or LooLit?

mrsgordonfreeman · 17/08/2010 22:23

DH leaves things like 40 year old copies of Ratio (philosophical journal) and books about impossibly arcane programming languages in the loo.

I swear they are there for show only.

I also swear that I did not sort out our bookshelves so that the impressively difficult looking law and politics books were all downstairs and the Terry Pratchetts safely hidden in the back bedroom.

YANBU - that's revolting.

Any reading material in the the bathroom is revolting as someone else said 'shit or get off the pot!' It's a toilet, not a waiting room!
