they send us an email with a resumee of what they did and the dates they worked for us?

I've just had one regarding someone who left in 1987. I've never heard of him before. Next week we'll get an email with the details of the funeral etc.

I don't resent it. I just find it very odd - does anyone else work for an organisation that does this? Also how on earth do they know about it so quickly?

My work does this but it's the type of environment where people stay for years and everyone knows everyone else. So even if it's someone that left years ago, the chances are you've heard of them or come across them in some way.

I don't think it is odd. But then, my MIL used to work for John Lewis - not only do they let you know when an ex "partner" dies, they send a representative to the funeral. My MIL volunteers as a retired partner, and attends funerals on this basis; as she is a bit of a misery, and enjoys funerals Grin

Do you work for John Lewis?!

Nope. Very odd. Maybe they know about it so quickly because of pensions or something? Or maybe it's someone's job to trawl thru the bereavement notices in the papers.

I'd quite like that job Blush

My organisation does this with people who retired 20 or 30 years ago.I think it is nice that their contribution was still valued enough to have a mention. They will know about it because of the pensions change.
