To think that DH is over fussy about drinks?

Not sure that the thread title is quite right but couldn't think what else to say!
DH worries cos DD(4) and DS(nearly 2) mainly drink milk. He will get home at night and try to get them to drink water cos 'I bet they have had no water all day.'
Does it really matter if it is mainly milk that they drink.
He is right, they don't often get water. But they also don't get fruit squash or the likes.
Which DH did introduce them toHmm instead of plain water.
They do go through a crazy amount of milk though, so it is not as if they are not getting fluids.

Is he right to think that they should get more water or is there nothing wrong with them drinking mainly milk?

DD (2.7) drinks loads of milk. She will drink water and loves juice but milk is her true love. Since she turned 2 I changed her to semi and I also make it between a third and half water sometimes and she doesn't notice or care.

I'd be more concerned about drinking a lot of milk from a weight point of view. DD was slightly overweight when she got to school, in large part because she drank a lot of milk. She didn't look overweight to me by the way, but when she was weighed and measured it turned out she was. We now limit her to a glass a day plus some on cereal.

Cheers guysSmile
I knew I had no need to worry. Tis only DH who gets funny about it sometimes and insists they have water when all they want is milk, or have specifically asked for milk.
I just thought I would throw the question out there, to you guys for some more opinions.
So pleased that you are mainly thinking like meSmile
Yeah, I guess it would be a good idea to get them to drink more water. I will try to remember to go for the tap more often than the fridge.
But I am just gonna hum serenely next time DH says, they ought to have more water. Or tell him that milk is 87% water, so they are getting lots already.

Both DCs are weighing in on the 50th percentile, so I don't think I will cut it down to semi skimmed, though I hear what you are saying, I just think full fat tastes nicerGrin!
And perhaps, closer to meal times I will try to give them water instead, just to make sure it is not affecting their appetite.
DS can be a wee 'mare at dinner time (though eats all other meals with gusto) so the milk thing coudl be a factor.
Though DH's logic is still blown out of the waterWink I woudl be more concerned at full bellys than lack of hydration.

My DCs are 4, 2 and 2 and I do prefer them to drink water. But we had real constipation probs with DS1 so preferred water to milk for that reason. He used to have quite a lot. They all have a tiny cup in the morning when they get up to tide them over until breakfast, and occasionally a tiny cup at night if they ask (I don't offer).

They never drink squash but do drink fruit juice maybe 3 or 4 times a week. DD esp wont eat enough food if she drinks too much milk (DH will give her a huge cup in the morning and then wonder why she wont eat breakfast).

But having said that, milk is not bad for them.

Too much fuss made about water consumption and virtually all figures used about it are arbitrary and subject to the whims of fashion.

As long as they have something to drink it really doesn't make much difference. Of course I may be biased as I adore milk...
