To be a bit frustrated by supermarkets.

Why is the entrance so far away from car park/ bus stop. Its just far from everything.

You cant get into/out of the actual isle area and out of the shop without the stupid barries, you end up having to walk the entire store length again to get to the exit or ungracefully squeeze bethween people's trolleys.

Dont even get me started on ridiculous pricing. A small tub of pasta salad costs £1.29, but if you can buy two for £1.50.
In one supermarket a big jar of peanut butter cost 2.39 and the little one(about half the size) cost 2.89!

I like a bargain at times but my local is so stingy. A pizza which was expiring on same day was knocked off by about 11p and went something like Reduced, save £££ in big bright yellow colours. I mean seriously sell the damm thing for half price then its a bargain.

I hate this thinking that people are stupid they wont realize that it waas overpriced anyway. No you are not saving me any money with your big patronizing buy 2 save £££ sign. I only wanted one. If i awnted to save my money then i wouldnt be spending it wld i?!

There are so many things that bug me abt supermakets or am i just being too grouchy. I really dislike patronizing coperate language.

Use local shops then like green grocers, butchers, bakers

innocuousnamechange · 16/08/2010 11:26

Seriously? You need to get out more.

kayah · 16/08/2010 11:28

I think supermarkets made us believe that they are cheaper than independen shops
I had a close look at our local Turkish shop and was pleasantly surprised that on most of items they were cheaper than my local S.
Also been thinking about membership to Costco...

YABU. I love supermarkets. A morning in Tesco, the really big one with electricals, clothes, pharmacy etc when it's not too busy and I'm in heaven Grin

AIBU?

The one thing that does annoy me about supermarkets is when they put the outside of the store on a nice slope that absolutely makes fully loaded trollies career out of control with a determination that they're going to make it to the top-left corner of the carpark however hard you fight it.

I'm waiting for this workout experience to be replicated in a gym machine as I'm sure it works your arms, legs, back, waist very very effectively trying to get your trolley headed to where you actually flipping parked.

Usually Asdas that seem guilty of that one.

letsblowthistacostand · 16/08/2010 12:53

I don't understand. If you don't like the supermarket, don't use it. Go somewhere else or shop online. I hear Ocado is really good.

Agree with emptyshell though, Sainsburys by us is the worst for that! Even empty trolleys completely uncontrollable.

5DollarShake · 16/08/2010 13:07

You talk as if all supermarkets have exactly the same layout, inside and out, when clearly they don't. Confused

Your gripe is with one shop; not with supermarkets per se, surely? My supermarket isn't anything like you describe.

If you don't like your supermarket, then either go to another one, shop at local stores, or have it delivered. Simples.

Mahraih · 16/08/2010 17:13

I love supermarkets. They are some of my favourite places (weird I know). I sometimes make a special late-night trip to Sainsburys to see what's gone right down in price. Which is really sad ...

The first reduction in price is NOT the last - if its still there by the end they'll knock it right down. But stuff like pizzas go fast, as does anything like fish/meat that would form a usual weekly shop. Weird stuff stays. Go half an hour before closing and you'll get great veg etc (I got pak choi for 12p!)

lolapoppins · 16/08/2010 17:17

I was nearly sucked in today. Bread rolls in tesco, three packs for £1.50 in great big letters, making it out to be a great deal.....only to look at the price sticker and they were 50p a pack anyway. I hate it when they do that.

RandyRussian · 16/08/2010 17:34

I can't stand those self-service checkouts.

"Designed to help speed you on your way"

No they're not. They're designed to save your wages bill you tight sods. And it takes twice as long to get through them as you have to both scan and pack your shopping.

And if you have a coupon you need an assistant to input it for you.

GGRRRRRRRRRR

Hassled · 16/08/2010 17:38

The four-packs of Napolina chopped tomatoes work out dearer than buying four individual tins of Napolina chopped tomatoes in Sainsburys.

I am disproportionately annoyed by this - it winds me up into a fury every time. And I can't stop telling people about it - they nod and think "get a life". Apparently I've told DH this three times now.

LauraNorder · 16/08/2010 17:43

The "special offers" sometimes annoy me - but then I quite like the satisfaction of seeing through them.

For example in Sainsburys Fairy washing powder "value" 4kg pack is something like £12.12 but their 2kg packs are reduced from £6 something to £4 a box - which one are you going to buy? (Very simplistic example btw)

angelheartlove · 17/08/2010 14:24

At least someone agrees with me. I know that S/markets can be a bit convenient but my local ones sometimes just take the piss. I do "get out more" but i've noticed these little traits recurring again and again.

I will try and use local shops but we only have have one (pretty expensive)butcher and a weekend fruit and veg market in our small essex town.

Tescos reduced section is rubbish and a cheek, I walk away in disgust at the odds and ends marked down a few pennies.
Whoever does this job, obviously doesn't want it to be sold. Not a bargain at all.

I always check my receipt, as sometimes the reduced or bogof deals don't always go through the till.
