to wonder if my neighbour is dealing drugs?

New neighbour has moved into a rented house a few doors down about a month ago. Ever since, he has been coming and going at very odd hours.

Typically, at around 7/8pm he gets in his car and drives off somewhere, returning 15 mins later. He repeats this two or three more times, then heads out properly at about 10pm and returns home anytime between 4am and 6am.

Then not a peep out of him all day long.

We only know about his movements because he drives a huge Japanese street car with an extremely loud muffled exhaust that wakes the whole house (including 19 month old DD). It is most annoying.

We are in inner London by the way.

So AIBU? If not, what should we do?

well you don't have any kind of proof about the durgs thing so nothing you can do on that count

no idea what he does though

The thing would be to fix the stupid exhaust if there were any way of enticing him to do that. Sounds annoying for you

What's he like?

Crazycatlady · 15/08/2010 21:12

I've no idea! Never actually seen his face. Have seen him sitting in his car a few times but he always waits until there's no-one around before getting out.

I just can't think what would necessitate all that driving about at odd hours?

Would it BU to fill his exhaust with eggs?

would it help?! lol would be a nice activity though

compo · 15/08/2010 21:13

Night time security guard
checking on elderly mum

GypsyMoth · 15/08/2010 21:13

sounds like he might work nights?

i know the type of car you mean....but as its legal, doubt anything can be done, unless illegally modified...and thats the real problem here isnt it? the noise!

ZZZenAgain · 15/08/2010 21:14

not sure why he would go off 2 or 3 times for 15 minutes between 7-8pm. No idea at all but could be harmless

Yes, could be a bouncer or something like that

The noise is the most immediate irritation, yes. But I'm also quite unsettled at the prospect he might be up to no good. The area we live in a very odd mix of relative wealth and huge poverty, drugs and gun crime, so I'm extra suspicious.

ZZZenAgain · 15/08/2010 21:17

sounds like Bogota!

Ok seriously I don't know what you can do about it. Engage him in a bit of friendly conversation and have a wee probe about

Crazycatlady · 15/08/2010 21:17

Tiffany the car is definitely modified. The exhaust pipe is about 25cm wide, no joke, and has a loud muffler attached.

I'm tackling our overgrown front garden tomorrow so will keep a look out for him and see if I can get him to at least say hi.

Pimping, ugh, hadn't even thought about that. But then we do live about 5 minutes from both Brixton Hill and Tooting Common, both well known red light districts.

Lol he probably works nights.

my dh has been known to pop out a couple of times of an evening, going to the shop.

he almost always forgets something so ends up going back.

i think its a man thing Grin

Every night Tiredmum? He must be forgetting an awful lot of things, at the same times every evening Wink

I know what you mean though!

Crazycatlady · 15/08/2010 21:23

Spacehopper are you being serious?!

It's Streatham by the way, just to add a little context...

Tiredmumno1 · 15/08/2010 21:25

oh well lol, no other ideas i am afraid, not if its the same times

GypsyMoth · 15/08/2010 21:25

give it time....you'll get to know more about him. and let us all know!!

LynetteScavo · 15/08/2010 21:27

You live in Streatham, and you are wondering if a drug dealer lives in your street? Confused

CrazyCatLady, that you live near Brixton says it all. He must be dealing.

You aren't a local to that area, born and bred, are you?

kingbeat23 · 15/08/2010 21:29

Even though it must worry you to think that this is happening on your doorstep, you have no proof other than he is a twat with a loud car.

Being a london dweller myself (albeit East rather than South but along the same kind of area)I would do nowt. If you call police etc and it's nothing then not only would you be shamed faced but could do more harm than good.

Now, if you had proof......that's another story.

Crazycatlady · 15/08/2010 21:29

I know Lynette Hmm, but honestly, the rest of the street is populated by young professional families who have ended up here because we don't happen to have £800k to splash out on a house in a nicer part of town. So in that sense it's a surprise! Drugs are (usually) confined to the big estates.

Crazycatlady · 15/08/2010 21:31

Vallhala I'm relatively local, in that I lived in Clapham as a small child, parts of outer London and Surrey while growing up, then Streatham since 2001.

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 15/08/2010 21:32

It's not the possible drug dealing that is the issue though, is it...it's his stupid exhaust.

Crazycatlady · 15/08/2010 21:34

It's both Lynette (see my post of 21:16).

Ack, I can hear his car starting up for trip 3 of the evening.

I'm going to go to bed now and see what the consensus is in the morning. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Will update...
