to want to smack dog owners around a bit?

smuggins · 15/08/2010 18:36

Just been for a walk with DD in the backpack.
Walking across a lovely meadow, we saw a woman walking her bear (might have been a large dog - looked like a bear to me) in the distance. As we approached each other, the bear sat down and awaited its owner. As we came closer, it stood up and took two (meter long) steps towards us. Naturally (evolution, survival instinct, etc) we shied away. The owner cheerily told us that the bear was 'a real sweetie' and meant nothing by it. The wife was a bit riled so said something along the lines of how the hell are we to know that, its a fucking bear and it was coming towards my child and its not on a leash. The response was 'well, you weren't to know, so have a nice day'.

Why do dog owners assume that we all love dogs. I hate dogs. And why were we made to feel bad for being threatened by the bloody bear. There are countless stories of 'real sweetie' dogs biting people - be they strangers / family / children. Do the dog owners know the law on such matters? Not sure I do totally, but I'd like to think that if an injury occurred because of a dog owners lack of control of their animal, they would be liable for that injury and the dog will be destroyed. Anyone know any different?

Anyway. I don't like dogs. Keep yours under control. Please.

Smuggins - I totally agree.

Dogs running around and not on leads are a menace in parks where children play, frankly. My instincts are immediately to bring my children close and move away from the dog.

I share your irritation and am always amazed by owners who laugh off the fact that their bounding, panting pet has scared you and/or your children.

I second bringing back the dog licence.

I also propose dog owners should be made to use flexi-leads in open parks to allow them to run. They're a pain around children. End of.

whomovedmychocolate · 15/08/2010 20:57

What convinced someone to want to breed this dog?

wow wmmc

he's gorgeous

i'd never have a pedigree if I had a dog (with cats i am of the if it has no tail, 3 legs and is an eye short then its for me! type) but wow

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 15/08/2010 20:59

Gerbo, I find children bounding around in parks and knocking my DC over a menace - good idea to introduce flexi leads.

ShinyAndNew · 15/08/2010 21:01

I propose all child owners should keep them out of libraries, supermarkets, shopping centers and cinemas unless on pre specified 'child days' because they are a pain around me.

But of course that would be unreasonable. Just because I don't enjoy other peoples children doesn't meant that other people shouldn't have a right to enjoy them.

cupcakesandbunting · 15/08/2010 21:01

I might have known one of you dog nuts might have dragged out the "you keep your children on a lead, I'll keep my mutt on a lead" line or similar.

Perspective. Get a bit. My child isn't inclined to either slobber all over your clothes or bite your face off.

SanctiMoanyArse · 15/08/2010 21:01

I wonder if someoen would see that dog and get scared theres a panda in their park?

(trying to expplain toa sd ds3 that he is ndeedf dog not a panda)

SanctiMoanyArse · 15/08/2010 21:02

'Perspective. Get a bit. My child isn't inclined to either slobber all over your clothes or bite your face off.'

No?

mine are

SpeedyGonzalez · 15/08/2010 21:03

I have found the dog that scared the crap out of the OP

ShinyAndNew · 15/08/2010 21:03

No cupcakes but they are inclined to scream blue murder whenever the fancy takes them, or talk to me about utter drivel while their parent beams about how sociable their child is.

The child may be, I am not.

gerbo · 15/08/2010 21:03

BeerTricks - I'm neither of those things - I simply dislike slobbering, panting dogs jumping up on my clothes and scaring my children ("Oh, he's only playing!! Ho ho!") and pooing all over our local park, and think they should be far better controlled.

Put them on a lead. They're animals, not rational human beings, for lawks sake, and sometimes they fancy biting. Keep 'em away from the children when you see children playing, that's all we ask. Go to a place less likely to have kids running around in it than your local play park!

cupcakesandbunting · 15/08/2010 21:04

You get on with your doggy business, girls. I'm off to talk to some normal people. TTFN.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 15/08/2010 21:04

How I hate dogs. All of them.

whomovedmychocolate · 15/08/2010 21:04

cupcakesandbunting - to be fair DS did go through a slobbering/biting stage Wink

But this is the arrogant attitude which pisses off non dog owners. Because whether you'll like it or not dogs are not as valued as people.

Vallhala · 15/08/2010 21:04

PMSL BigBearDog. :o

thelunar66 · 15/08/2010 21:06

God yes OP... why should we have to share the planet with horrible animals with teeth

Hmm
Threelittleducks · 15/08/2010 21:08

I hate folk who don't give dogs a chance. They are usually the folk who cause the dog problems in the world through ignorance/ridiculousness.
I also hate folks who have dogs and think it is their god-given right to treat them badly because they are the 'owner'.
I hate folk who inflict their 'nice' dogs on other folk/dogs, without knowing what the reaction might be.

Education and less ignorance all round methinks.

I am a dog owner and I take major offence to being stereotyped as such.
Because I am one very aware, very responsible dog owner.
Which a lot of dog owners are not.

IMoveTheStars · 15/08/2010 21:09

Your title should have read 'to want dog owners to keep their pets under control'

You judgemental cow.

thesunshinesbrightly · 15/08/2010 21:09

'dog nuts' ha ha Hmm cupcakes - you have issues with dog's - get some help.

Kid without slobber and not biting?? really??

Much prefer dogs.

whomovedmychocolate · 15/08/2010 21:13

Umm why are you not on muttsnet then thesunshinesbrightly? Confused

NarkyPuffin · 15/08/2010 21:14

No dogs are not valued as people. I value mine above most people.

Some people are angry with dogs for existing. If a dog jumps up at you, fine, be annoyed. If it is just standing there doing nothing and you get upset because it's not on a lead you are the one with an issue. Trained dogs don't need to be on a lead to be under control.

Yes, irresponsible owners make life unpleasant for people, and some dogs are dangerous. So are some teenagers, but that doesn't make it resonable to freak out every time you see a teen.

I wonder if you realise that you're teaching your children to be afraid of dogs- not cautious or ambivalent but terrified.

thesunshinesbrightly · 15/08/2010 21:16

Oooo am i the only one who prefers dogs? i think not, so what is this target bullying??
