DD2 just took 8 steps, fell over then got up and took another 5!!

This is from my teeny tiny premmy DD, born at 32 wks, but has had a lot of developmental delays!! She had days left before being refered for physio to see what could be done to help her!!

I'm such a proud mummy!!! Grin

ds was a 2lb 26 weeker and never crawled and didn;t really speak except for the odd word until he was nearly 3. On his fourth birthday he ticked off every box inb the expected milestones thingie they email you.

I just sat an read it open mouthed Grin

Its difficult to unsertsand the obsession with the bleeding charts and stuff unless your child was so far off the charts in teh red book that they were on the instruction on the bottomof the page! Congratulations!

WOW how fabulous! Well done to your DD2, what an achievement. And how great for you to see just what she is capable of.

Brings back memories of my DD1 who was also born at 32 weeks weighing 4lb - she had a very quick birth which led to huge brain haemorhage. (sp?!) Prognosis was not good... and she was so small for so long and seemed to just watch the world pass her by for sooooooo long.

But to see her today, at 3.11 yo and pretty average height and weight, zooming along on her balance bike - I hope you get to have so many enjoyable moments with your DD as I do with mine.

Well done again!

all your lovely comments are making me nearly cry!!

Kewcumber- how lovely to hear what a fantastic little boy your tiddler has become!! DD2 also didn't make a noise until recently, that was another thing they were going to look into if she'd not started babbling etc, but now has her own little language, can copy words and says about 10 recognisable things... 'mama' being my fave of course!! Grin

Dysgu- also fab to hear about your DD, i do wonder if DD will ever really 'catch' up size-wize being so small still... but she is getting taller so maybe she'll just be tall and slim...

DD1 has probably grown more in the last 6-8 months than ever before! At Christmas last year I put her into her baby sister's clothes when she got muddy at the park and there was 5lb difference in their weights - there is 27 months between them and DD2 was a preemie too!

SO DD1 was 3.4yo and wore 12-18 month clothes!

She is 4 next month and is wearing 3-4 yo clothes and weighs 18kg - which I know as she needs a new car seat this weekend!

We have done nothing different - she has just suddenly shot up and is doing fantastically! Her consultant always used to say she reminded him to feel humble and to treat the child not the MRI scans!

DD2 is now 19 mo and is beginning to talk - she was only 5 weeks early and was a whopping 5lb 9oz (which, to us, was HUGE!!) She may not be a talker but in the 6 weeks since she has been walking, she has hardly stopped!

I do try to avoid milestone lists with them both - luckily, as DD1 WAS our first we simply has to accept that she would do things when she was ready - and she seems to do everything eventually!

They have both had us worried at times but they are both doing fabulously now and, even if I am biased, I don't think you would know (now) that they had such tough, early starts simply by looking at them and watching what they can do.

I hope your DD turns out to be so much joy and success as my two are - I count my blessings every day and love to watch them sleeping just to listen to them breathe (by themselves!!)

larks35 · 13/08/2010 22:33

Congrats on your DD! I have to say that I am Envy! DS is 19mo now, was born on his due date and has developed normally but is still not walking!!! He is a bum-shuffler and has spent the last 3 months dragging me round as a walking support (my back, my poor back!!!)
He does now sometimes stand unsupported for a good long while, but am still waiting for those unsupported steps.

Well done your DD though after what you and she have been through Grin

ChippingIn · 14/08/2010 16:48

Very exciting :)

Is she walking around today like she's been doing it forever or is she teasing you and not walking ??

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 14/08/2010 16:52

How wonderful! That's lovely to hear Grin

LeoniPoni · 14/08/2010 16:59

Yay! :O

You are very reasonable in being such a proud mummy!

cantmummyhaveabreak · 15/08/2010 19:15

well she's still just doing 'stints' but she's now done 13 steps without falling, and will walk if it's 5-6 steps away rather than crawling- so fab progress!!

That's fantastic!

She walked sooner than my DD who walked for the first time about three weeks ago at 21 mo. She was born full term, so nothing to account for it- when she walked I posted almost exactly the same thread!

Well done DD- and congratulations Smile

Galena · 15/08/2010 19:54

Great news! I'm waiting for this with DD, 16 months. She was born at 27 weeks and does everything in her own time. Started pulling herself up to standing last week though, so I'm also pleased! Hooray for our gorgeous ones!

cantmummyhaveabreak · 15/08/2010 19:59

Yeah DD2's done everything in her own time too. It's such a brilliant thing seeing her taking the steps that i've been waiting so long for!!
