To hate going through airport security

I had to do it today. I always feel like some kind of criminal. Bags through machine. DP made to remove belt.

Me through scanner - it goes off. Sent back to remove shoes and replace with blue plastic bag things. Back through machine. Patted down, nothing found. Asked what's in my knickers for Gods sake. No idea why scanner went off - is underwiring in bra enough?

And finally - plastic fork confistcated from bag - the folding sort that you get free with salads in supermarkets. I'd just forgotten it was there. Appears they thought I'd hold up the aeroplane with it Hmm

I know its meant to be for our own good but I always hate it.

YANBU.

I go to see my family a lot and we travel as a family several times a year.

It very much depends on who you get and how they feel on that day - some have let me through without removing sleeping baby from the pushchair, some have asked me to wake baby up, fold puschair, get it through scanning machine, take baby's shoes/jacket off. Highly inconsistent.

Going through with 4 kids is my idea of hell tbh.

LOL at kick in the nads.

Similarly, I have been ready to pounce on and punch into oblivion anyone acting dodgy with a rucksack on the tube. I think I would punch them until my arms were so tired that I could not punch anymore.

YANBU

Imagine going through security when all your hand luggage are neatly packed, you are travelling alone with a 2 year old for 22 hours and she falls asleep in her buggy and you have to wake her up to remove her from the buggy so that they can search the buggy. You have to take boots off, belts, etc. Then taste any milk or drinks you have for her.By the time you are on the otherside no one bothers helping you when you have a grumpy toddler who was just woken up and you still have put everything back to make it easy for you. I totally hate it

Earlier this week I was told I would probably have my liquids taken off me because my zip lock bag was too big and to go and get a smaller one - madness!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/08/2010 11:46

yanbu to hate it at all.
Had a couple of bad experiences in the States. One was when they insisted that dd who was 3 walk through by herself. She was terrified and it was worse as they insisted that she put her comfort blanket on the conveyor belt. Poor kid got really really upset.

Other was when 2 security guards argued for ages between themselves whether dds prescription liquid antibiotics, prescribed over there needed to be in a clear bag or not. I had the bag in my hand was happy to put it in/take it out - whatever the hell they wanted but no, they had to have the lengthy argument about it.

Then our plane got delayed forever and I didn't dare go back through to go and get food and water as I couldn't face the argument about it.

I can't decide - on one hand DH and I can't travel with hand luggage only due to his massive tubs of prescription cream. On the other hand I have started to think of the pat down as a free mini massage, I always get one, it must be the underwires Grin.

We have just got back from holiday and it is always such a palavar - been to the US, so it involved shoes off too, and the body scanners - and going into the US it involves taking finger prints and a photo of your eyes.

Just been with FIL who always sets the machines off due to his hip replacement.

And I always remember when DD, aged 2y, went to run through the machine, tripped and ran/fell head first into the edge of the security machine causing security to come running, filling in of forms, etc. I was just glad they allowed us to board ok and not back go for obs first.

kickassangel · 13/08/2010 22:24

hula, the photo & fingerprints in the US are for immigration, not security, btw.

it's vv hard for people in wheelchairs - we got held up behind a child who could not walk, but was not allowed to go through in her wheelchair!

Hulababy · 13/08/2010 22:29

Yes, I know. But 'tis all linked into that one big airport palavar in my head.

I know it is all for our own good, but - argh! And yes, I would rather they did it properly than didn't.

anonandlikeit · 13/08/2010 22:36

ds2 has to get out of his wheelchair, wheelchair has to be searched etc etc, its a PITA but if its difficult for us then its dissicult for a terrorist too.
I'm actually more annoyed when I see them conducting poor searches of bags & not paying attention to the xray machine.
