Have nearly £4000 in debts a significant preportion of our "Gross household product" Its an uncertine world were living in this could be harder to pay in the future. So instead of paying this gradualy over time im going to move into a tent with dp and 5 dcs and we will all eat cold beans. DEBT may go fast but I think this may have other consiquences.
If you think I am being unresonable, what do you think of the government handling the national debt in this way?

??

pjmama · 12/08/2010 20:12

I would love to live in a big flash house with a swimming pool, but as I can't afford it then I'd be happy to make do with a tent. Keeps the rain off! Wink

BTW what are you talking about?

mittz · 12/08/2010 20:14

I think they are bastards. But then I am not in a particularly diplomatic mood.

twinsplus3 · 12/08/2010 20:15

Ok so its not the same scale at all. But it just seems Insane to me that the government seems willing to take such drastic steps to reduce the national Debt. Debt is something many individuals, companys and countrys live with surly better to pay it steadly rather than quickly with disasterouse consiquences.

we weren't (and still won't) be repaying it though, we are increasing it - it is just that the rate of increase will fall. The debt itself is still forecast to increase, even with the cuts we will still be spending more than our income.

Me too actually ... bit disappointed!

Chil1234 · 13/08/2010 06:39

I think you're wildly exaggerating if you think what the government is doing is the equivalent to selling a house and buying a tent to pay off debts. The government's 'house' of public expenditure is a big sprawling stately home that has lots of expensive wings, follies, attics, swimming pools and tennis courts that cost much more to maintain than is available. Waste, inefficiency & excess that has accumulated over time. Downsizing public expenditure means living according to means - exchanging the stately home for a 5-bed detached to continue the metaphor - not shipping out to a tent.

SkiHorseWonAWean · 13/08/2010 06:43

YABU - and what you don't seem to realise is that such is the mountain of debt that your Labour government left us with - to continue your metaphor - you would be borrowing money for the beans & camping ground fees!

Heracles · 13/08/2010 08:13

Invest in a good dictionary.

wahwah · 13/08/2010 08:40

OP, I think you should do it. Perhaps you could ask your children for their suggestions too, they might wish to sell their kidneys in support.

ccpccp · 13/08/2010 09:17

You are electing to live in a tent and eat beans because you can see troube ahead. You've clearly chosen to tear the dirty plaster off in one go, than to draw out the pain slowly but risk further infection.

The Government are being forced to live in a tent and dont even have a tin of beans, becasue the previous fekless occupier took out loans they couldnt afford and secured them against the mortgage.

Hey - this is FUN :)

coraltoes · 13/08/2010 10:35

Sounds like you'd rather pay for your beans on credit card
