I am a loyal customer, have been with them years and spent a lot of money with them.

I have 2 accounts (ie 2 sims), one DD1 uses.
I had a nice phone which broke after 2 months they refused to repair it, but gave me a crappy phone and extended my contract.

The second sim is up, so can upgrade, so I decide to treatmyself and get a decnt phone at an increased price of £15 a month and another 2 year tie in. So I order it.

On monday I get an email saying my phone is on its way, much excitement. Today still no phone, but a letter from vodafone saying my new contract price started on tues and they are so pleased I have stayed with them Angry!

So I phone them, and the woman was less than helpful. The phoen went to parcel force and it is no longer there problem. I have no tracking number, no notes from Parcel Force re attempted delivery, no nothing.

So she leaves me on hold for TEN minutes and gets the tracking number, and says they HAVE tried to deliver it, well they havent left a card so I have no idea where or when or how to get hold of them. So she gives me the tracking number, and tells me to google them or phone directory enquiries. Now of course I am ABLE to do so, but FFS if they choose to use the idiots at parcel force then surely it is their problem!!

So I shout Blush and say they are quite happy to take my money, and charge me for the new phone, and they can bloody well make sure it is delivered to me.

Funnily enough when I get home, there is a note from Parcel Force, but now the phone is in a depot miles away. I go online to track it, and one of the so called attempted deliveries was when we were home and would have been sat right by the front door eating dinner!

GRRRR

I had a similar experience with vodaphone.

They mended my phone once, and before I left the shop I made them plug it in to show that it worked. It didn't. So they sent it back to be mended again and it came back with a report saying it was water damaged and so not their problem. I pointed out that according to their first report it was not water damaged, so if it had become water damaged by the second mending, they must have done it as I had never left the shop with it. They were really vile and patronising to me and made bizarre remarks about women choosing flimsy phones.

DH went in (he bought me the phone) and threatened legal action. They gave me a new phone.

I would never renew a contract with them and will now only have pay as you go.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 12/08/2010 19:53

Snap, Millie R! Exact same thing happened to me a few days ago at Carphonewarehouse, where the Nokia engineer is based. The assistant actually said to me, 'my suspicions were aroused when the case had a water mark' Hmm and told me that the phone was water damaged. Really? Maybe condensation?

Thing is, my contract is cheaper than PAYG, and just don't have the brain space for an argument with Orange, so using a spare.

mummytime · 12/08/2010 19:55

Ask to speak to a manager, my DH has had problems with them but they keep compensating him. If it goes on much more they will be paying him to have the phone.

Hmm I see a theme, the phone that broke, when I took it into the shop, he had a look at it, and said they needed to send it off, but spent a long time warning me if it was ater damage they wouldnt repair or replace it!

When I went to collect it,apparantly the little strip that shows water damage was purple, funnily enough, the first bloke didnt show me that area though its very obvious. When i questioned it, and said it had never got wet, they were absolutely obnxious, hence the crappy phone and 3 months extended contract.

When i get this new phoen, will bring both sims inline, I will be cancelling both contarcts then and going elsewhere. Appaling customer service Angry

I think the moral of this story is to take a photo of the water damage line, showing it to be clear, in the shop before it gets sent off.

I have visions of someone in the broken phone centre dipping all of our phones in a cup of tea.

I now have "stuff" insurance on my household insurance - was only an extra £20/year, alas too late for this "water damaged" phone!

Apparently even perspiring next to your phone is sufficent to turn the water sticker bright red and void the warranty. That would mean you can't make a phone call if your hand or face is sweaty. It only takes one drop of liquid to change the colour.

what and where is the water damage line on a phone????

MillyR · 12/08/2010 20:34

It is often a round sticker - it will be on the inside of your phone if you open it up. Do not touch it!

If you google it you can get images that show you.

1Littleboy1Bigboy · 12/08/2010 20:41

thanks!!

nannynick · 12/08/2010 23:12

If there is so much of a problem with water damage to phones - the phones are not fit for purpose are they! It rains in the UK - don't they know that!

So... when will we be getting waterproof phones? Surely it can't be too much to ask them to design a phone which has some water resistance... they have been doing it with digital watches for years.

Goodness! I am Shock that Vodafone have gone downhill so much, I always had good service from them when I was in the UK.

I'd LMAO if they complained about my phone getting water damage though - it's meant to be water resistant (it's an "Activity" phone) so that would mean a failure on the phone's part if it got water damaged!

BootyMum · 12/08/2010 23:58

I have always had good service from T-Mobile [no, I don't work for them!]. But Parcel Force, DHL, etc are the pits. Numerous times I have received a delivery slip stating they tried to deliver an item at exactly the time I was actually sitting at home and could have very easily answered the door to them Angry

ilovemydogandMrObama · 13/08/2010 14:33

Spoke to Orange and they said that my contract for the phone is actually with Nokia Hmm and they are only providing the phone. And seems that the burden of proof is on me to prove that it is not water damage, and will need an engineer's report, and at £75.00 for an initial inspection. Outrageous.

I just don't have the brain space for this!

ilovemydogandMrObama · 13/08/2010 14:34

only proving the line

nannynick · 13/08/2010 15:06

So the phone retailer is saying that they are not responsible for the phone itself. Hmm... have you asked Consumer Direct for their view on that... their website says it's the Traders responsibility not the manufacturer. Though it does not mention a time period... so it may only be for a certain period of time from the initial purchase. Could call Consumer Direct and ask 0845 404 05 06.

nannynick · 13/08/2010 15:08

In your case, the retailer is probably CarPhoneWarehouse... rather than Orange. Something else to establish with Consumer Direct in your case... as you need to know who it is who sold you the phone - CarphoneWarehouse, Orange or someone else!
