to give a present away as a present?

the gift is lovely but is the wrong size/season combination for my DD. I have tried to exchange but the shop (Mamas and Papas to name and shame), have refused as it was bought in Feb (don't live anywhere near a M&P so had to wait we were on hols).

Is it really as terrible as I suspect to give it away (with tags still on) as a gift to an acquaintence who has just had a baby?

I wouldn't give a present away as a present, or sell it on ebay! I particularly wouldn't sell it on ebay, that is just plain rude!
I regularly give presents from my MIL straight to charity shops though!

I'm a big re-gifter. Although this week I have had 2 funny experiences. It's my birthday on Sunday and I got given some chocolates by an elderly relative and some chocolates by a friend. Brilliant.

Chocs from Aunty went out of date today (good job I ate them already), and chocs from friend had all melted and perished.

(I still ate those too Blush) I honestly think it's the thought that counts, and don't think any less of these people for giving me poisonous out of date chocs.

I often regift and can't see anything wrong with it. i echo what others have said in that I only pass on presents if they are ones I would have bought myself [ie I actually think it's a nice gift] and they are appropriate to the person [ie something you think they would like and would suit them]. Any other gifts that I can't use for whatever reason go to charity shop. Always write a thank-you to person giving gift as it is the thought that counts after all. And always remember who gave you what so you don't give gift to same person who originally gave it to you! That would be Blush. Hasn't happened to me yet as far as I know...

I regift all the time, can't think of a single reason why not.
