I have lived here for nearly 6yrs. When I moved in, the house was a wreck and I mean a wreck. The previous tennants had been evicted.

Due to splitting with xp, it has taken me a very long time to get it half way decent, but I have, including having the downstairs wc retiled from floor to ceiling and the wall replaced between living/dining room.

My back garden is rubbish. Why ?? because behind the back fence, there is a line of trees which are so overgrown that they overhang most of my garden and the grass wont grow. I have previously complained but got nowhere.

If anything needs repairing in my house, then generally I will ask my dad to do it, and pay for materials etc myself, because I don't believe in taking the piss iykwim.

Now, I have just had a letter dropped through my door titled weeds. Saying that on a recent visit to my estate, it was noted that on a patch of dirt by my back gate there were overgrown weeds. Could I please remove them within 7 days as it is my responsibility to keep my property tidy.

Well I removed the weeds over a week ago, at the same time as I got up 10 bags of leaves and crap from my back garden, deposited by the trees.
Oh and this patch of dirt is right down my drive, in front of my car, so not even seen unless you walk down.

Ok, so there were weeds, but fgs, I am doing my best with what I have. I did actually have a conversation with dd2 about how we could make that patch of dirt look better, at the time I was clearing it.

So aibu to now write down every single thing in my house that needs repairing and ring it all in AND write to them giving them 7 days to come and cut back the trees before one of my children gets knocked out by a flying branch ??

you should anyway mrsmorgan

and it does sound like they are over reacting.

i have a HA property as well and the state of it was horrendous when i moved in, had to do loads to make it habitable, i cant believe some of the states they let out!

Oh I know, people are always saying to me that I should make them do more, but I don't like to nag, and if it something I can afford myself and my dad can do, then I do try to do it that way instead.

Currently I have a bathroom tap that doesn't turn off, and a kitchen door with a handle that keeps locking us all in. I had been pricing up new taps (they are very mankey and old), and new handles, for my dad to do them, but they can forget it now. I will be ringing both of them through as repairs tomorrow.

Some of the houses and flats around here are in horrendous states. I can't believe they have been so damn picky, when I try my best to keep it nice.

Yes, I agree, you should be doing it anyway. I would write the letter and make sure you take a copy and make them aware you have a copy so they can't dispute the contents. I would also take it to them by hand and get a receipt from them for it. They have different time scales for responding to things, but under the circumstances, I think you'd be reasonable to expect things done within a week.

Best of luck, let us know the result please!
