to think children should have a good relationship with doctor.

My twins have been registered with the same doctor since birth and they are now 6. The doctor in question is a lovely man. His daughter attends DCs school and he is happy to have a look at grazed knees and cuts in the playground.

Although his surgery is 20 or so minutes from our house, I am more than happy to drive there when needed as the children look forward to seeing him and they don't complain when he needs to give them shots or anything.

Anyway, MIL recently said we should register the children closer so that if they get sick whist staying with her, she doesn't have to make the trek on the bus. DP agreed with her but I'm quite annoyed as children are only eft with MIL once a week for an afternoon to give me a break. I may be overreacting but I just fail to see why they should be moved from somewhere they are clearly happy.

YANBU - If your MIL only has the children one afternoon a week she can ring you if they're sick and you can take them to docs if necessary. I certainly wouldn't change from a doctor I'm happy with.

YANBU
If they get sick whilst they are with her, then they can be seen as 'immediately necessary' patients at a nearer surgery
Much bettewr to stick with the practice you like

If I was you I would keep them with the doc they know and are comfortable with,

Both I and my my kids rarely see the same doc at our practice so never build a relationship and constanstaly have to go over the same old stuff time and time again, an example, my 17 year old daughter is allergic to pennacillan but has to tell the doc every time she goes as they dont know her,

if your doc knows your kids and they are used to him or her why change to make it easier for someone else when the liklyhood of them having to take them to the docs is so small.

Once a week for an afternoon and she wants you to change their Doctor...

YANBU. I could see her point only if she was the main carer in the week when your DCs were likely to have appointments scheduled. As it is, there is no reason to change things.
