... to think that my DD's nursery should be providing better food?

her record book for today states that she had:

snack - toast

lunch - sausage roll, beans, mash, angel delight

tea - sandwichs and salad

I have no issues with toast, but the lunch menu made me a bit Hmm. There is no veg of any sort, and whilst with the best quality ingredients the main course might just pass muster, I'm afraid that as far as I am concerned, Angel Delight is just not food. Tea is a bit better, except that they often serve up jam and chocolate spread in the sandwichs (no way of knowing what was offered today without doing a bit more digging). Luckily my DD really likes her salad, and I can be fairly certain she ate a bit if that.

Am I being an unreasonable lentil weaving nut-job to expect a bit more imagination, and, well, a bit more veg?

If its just cos its the holidays and its normally ok then I wouldnt worry
My DS hasnt eaten as healthily as normal during the school holidays either, but it wont kill him

Is Angel Delight really that bad? I always remeber it being yummy!

The nursery I first worked at served food like that every day, it was
fishfinger smash and beans,
sausage(the ones that come in beans) smash and beans,
value, frozen cottage pie, smash and beans,
sausage roll, smash and beans,
chicken nuggets, smash and beans,
the vegetarian option was smash and beans every day.
Dessert was always value angel delight or value fromage frais.
The menu given to parents was
fish, potatoes and veg,
sausages with potatoes and veg,
minced beef pie with potatoes and veg,
sausage casserole with potatoes and veg,
roast chicken with potatoes and veg.

I left after 6 months and thankfully the nursery has now got a new owner.

It's not great but it's only one day. If it6 was like that day in, day out, I would not be happy. No excuse for Angel Delight though, it's horrible!

I think nurseries are in a bit of a tricky situation as they need to serve food that the majority of kids will eat, so they do seem to go towards the sausge and mash type meals.

Have you spoken to them? I asked DS's nursery to serve less Quorn to the veggies (he was having it pretty much every day) and they did. Also, sometimes what they say the kids have is not exactly what they ate...but in a good way! For example, they'll say that DS had a cheese sandwich for tea but I know (from being in nursery for some teatimes) that they usually serve bits of cucumber and tomato with sandwiches, they just don't always mention it.
