After all the Manager takes the blame for lack of motivation He is there to motivate.
It seemed a unhappy team in South africa.

Erm, I know nothing about football but I believe the decision may have had something to do with the remuneration?

ragged · 10/08/2010 20:53

Yeah, FA couldn't afford to pay him off (according to terms of the contract).
Richest leagues in the world and they go ahead and let him put a no dismissal clause in there which they can't possibly afford.

I don't even follow football, just listen to too much Five Live!

TechLovingDad · 10/08/2010 20:54

Oh come on, the only team he's ever failed with is England. Every other team has won trophies, what does that tell you?

The England players are a bunch of arrogant muppets, who live in an unreal world where everyone tells them how great they are all the time.

Jasonthunderpants · 10/08/2010 20:58

You can get the worlds greatest manager in and England would still not win anything
I dont know why but our National team cannot and never could match the top teams in the world

minibmw2010 · 10/08/2010 21:03

He was never going to quit and lose out on a possible £12 MILLION pay-off from the FA if they ever decide to make him leave early. Its a win-win for him ... most people realise its the players who were rubbish, not just him. His reputation will survive and he'll make a lot of money.

Heracles · 10/08/2010 23:36

The FA acquiesed and agreed to remove the option to end the contract after the WC just before the end of last season. Basically, the FA is run by a bunch of clueless suits.

ragged · 11/08/2010 08:26

Why does Capello want such a poisoned chalice, anyway? He's not going to change the players from being "arrogant muppets", is he? Or does he enjoy impossible challenges? Grin

Actually, am not a football person, so serious question: do other leagues around the world play such long seasons? Most the England team play in England, don't they? Do most other national level players have such long regular domestic seasons to play as well as their international commitments?

Heracles · 11/08/2010 10:28

The England team ore no more or less "arrogant muppets" than any other team; it's a red herring.

Why does he want this poisoned chalice? I'd guess the 4 million reasons every year probably take the nasty taste away, plus you've nothing to lose, really...

mayorquimby · 11/08/2010 10:44

£££££
plus it's one of the better teams in international football to manage. There's probably only 3/4 more attractive jobs if he wants to be an international manager.
He had a shocking tournament though and is as much to blame for the failure as any of the players and probably more so.
