Maybe I've now reached a certain age, but after years of him being on telly, I now look at him & think "Phwooooaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrr!"

Simon has been my first love since watching Upstairs Downstairs at 5. When I saw the reruns when I was 16, I was so upset when he shot himself! Even now that episode is so heartbreaking.
Posh totty is good. Think my first love influenced my choice of hubby - tall & thin with a posh voice. No moustache, alas!
PS any oldies remeber Nigel in "A Horseman Riding By"?

I Loved a horseman riding by,I was just about to mention it.Sigh.(I am 46,that and Flambards sustained my early teenage years)

BettyTurnip · 09/08/2010 22:46

I have had a crush on Nige for years, since the days of Don't Wait Up. Also loved Ian Charleson in Chariots of Fire. He's dead now I think.

Housewife2010 · 09/08/2010 22:46

Flambards. I love that too! My 2nd ever fave series. Will or Mark for you?

OP posts:
hellymelly · 09/08/2010 22:50

Will all the way.(sigh again).but then I also saw Ryan's Daughter at 13 and I'm sure it influenced my taste in men.-DH is not a shell-shocked officer, although he did get told recently that he looks just like Nigel Havers(in his younger days I hope as DH is 38)

Housewife2010 · 09/08/2010 22:56

So many kindred spirits here...
I love Ryan's Daughter. That & Will did give me a bit of a thing for men with limps...
Anyone remember "To Serve them all my Days"? Lovely John Duttine. I've had a thing for Welsh men too that. Swoon...

I spent my twenties working in Cambridge, an excellent place for lusting after chinless wonders with lovely vowels!

stleger · 09/08/2010 22:59

Loved To Serve them All my Days too.

hellymelly · 09/08/2010 22:59

Men with limps...and shell shock.Lovely. I like Welsh men too,but then I am Welsh.I'd forgotten about John Duttine-wasn't he in that series about the victorian cat burgler? What was that called, was it Raffles?

LittlePushka · 09/08/2010 23:01

Housewife2010 - I loveved Flambards! I especially loved the blonde farmer type one with the tash and boots(recall his WW1 uniform VERY vividly, too vividly for a 10 year old in retrospect Shock...though not his name!) Mark was the cad ..is that right?but he mellowed to Christina at the end, I think?

BettyTurnip · 09/08/2010 23:01

Oh I remember watching that. He had terrible shell shock, was v sad. Think Flambards must've been before my time!

Mspontipine · 09/08/2010 23:03

He was VERY sexy in The Charmer Wink

BettyTurnip · 09/08/2010 23:04

Bloody phone typing so slow. Am Giving up!

CJCregg · 09/08/2010 23:06

Davey Powlett-Jones, he was. Sweet and lovely. I honked and howled when Beth and the twins were killed.

Young James Bellamy . That Georgina, she should never have rejected him.

And, to complete the trio, does anyone remember Anthony Andrews as Lord Silverbridge in the Pallisers?

Housewife2010 · 09/08/2010 23:13

Loved the episodes in france with James & Georgine. Both so beautiful. How could she have turned him down in the end & gone for Anthony Andrews?
Got to go. Silly husband wants my laptop for daft facebook mafia games. Will be back tomorrow. Going to dream now of Simon Williams & welsh, limping , shell-shocked men all pursuing me... Sweet dreams ladies...

OP posts:
hellymelly · 09/08/2010 23:18

I'm off to bed too, also hopeful of sweet dreams,or maybe I should bash Dh on the shin with a rolling pin...

franke · 09/08/2010 23:24

Betty, Ian Charleson died 20 years ago - I had no idea Shock Very sad, he was only 40.

BettyTurnip · 10/08/2010 00:29

Did he did of Aids or is that just my overactive imagination?

Hai1988 · 10/08/2010 10:16

no ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Smile

hellymelly · 10/08/2010 11:53

Yes he did die of aids, very sad.Just too early for the lifesaving drugs we have now.Poor man.

HarveyChicks · 10/08/2010 15:01

I was at school with his daughter and we used to shout out of the window "We love you Nigel Havers" and then hide. We all had a crush on him even though he absolutely was old enough to be our Father.

Caught a glimpse of him on Corrie and he does nothing for me now. I think he'd look better if he gained a little weight. YANBU though as I think I'd still fancy him if I were ten or fifteen years older.

hellymelly · 10/08/2010 22:38

Here you are ladies

boocha · 10/08/2010 22:51

Housewife2010 · 11/08/2010 12:47

Love the Ryan's daughter music.
I must be getting on a bit though, because the Major doesn't do it for me anymore, but Michael.... Phwooooarrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
