to think that Eastenders is seriously pushing its luck?

Now I love Eastenders as much as the next person, but am I alone in thinking the producers are seriously pushing their luck showing tonight's episode before the watershed? Phil and Raine's drug/booze fest was great to watch (as I said on another thread, Steve McFadden is the best drunk on TV!!) but surely it's not suitable for this time of night????

I rarely watch it before the water shed, mainly as that's bed time in our house. I agree with many though, it was taken to extreames tonight. What next? Phil overdosing on fri night, right in front of our very eyes? Think the writers are getting a bit desperate to be honest.

clpsmum · 10/08/2010 08:54

thought it was pretty pathetic tbh and am going to stop watching it not only is it a bit much before the watershed are they seriously expecting us to believe that since friday phil has not only started drinking again he has also become a crack fiend the worst imaginable drug ever???? and after months of trying to get together with Ricky Bianci is now having an affair??? who writes this tosh

atmywitssend · 10/08/2010 08:56

Er, don't watch it at 7.30. Watch on iPlayer once children are in bed?

NestaFiesta · 10/08/2010 09:38

witsend-the point is there should be some standards at 7.30pm and not eveyrone has iplayer. If we get rid of the watershed altogether because of iplayer/Skyplus things will really go downhill.

My main beef with Eastenders last night was that it was depressing beyond belief. I know it has a reputation for gloom but this was a new low.I wandered off afetr yet another dimly lit scene of Phil being aggressive/drunk/ stoned. Was it an hour long? because it really felt like it.

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 10/08/2010 09:49

i actually agree that the episode was a bit much and is not suitable for the omnibus (although steve mcfadden was great APU) i too get a bit sick of recreational drugs being shown as a spiral into prostitution and addiction though.

Hai1988 · 10/08/2010 10:12

I didnt see a problem tbh. I did not see a crack pipe, just looked like there were smoking and young kids are not gonna no what is really going on.

If you dont want ur kids to watch it then dont put it on in ur house or watch it when there in bed.

Some kids are exposed to worse things like this on tv, EE do get quite alot of complants but tbh i have never seen any reason to complain it is a great show that screens big issuses.

ArseHolio · 10/08/2010 10:42

The crack pipe was on the table and more than once phil demanded another rock.

I agree kids shouldn't be watching it but some inevitably will.

Hai1988 · 10/08/2010 10:53

Oh well if it was then im sorry i didnt see it tbh Arse.

But surly there are worse things kids will watch without there parents knowing.

shockers · 10/08/2010 11:04

It was completely unneccesary at that time of night. I saw it at a neighbour's, I was doing her hair and it was on 'in the background' but I couldn't help watching and wondering what her 8 yr old DD was making of it.

The woman mentioned crack and rocks, they were both smoking and plastered on whiskey and then they ended up undressed on the floor (under a blanket).

It's school holiday time and it's before the watershed... not acceptable IMO.

I don't have EE on when my children are downstairs but I know a lot of children in my class watch it (yr 4).

BabyDubsEverywhere · 10/08/2010 11:06

How on earth would a child know what a crack pipe is?

notso · 10/08/2010 11:06

I haven't watched EE for years, but DH has recently started getting in to it again, last night was the first episode I have seen and I laughed my ass off at the whole crack pipe senario what a load of rubbish.

It did however have the following affect on my family,
DD and DS were just coming in to say good night, DD 10 said "are they taking drugs?"
DS 5 said "do drugs make you red and fat?"
DH was talking to them on the way upstairs about drugs and DD was merrily explaining what she had learned at school about them.
Then DS asked DH why I took drugs, DH said "Mummy doesn't do drugs" and DS said "she does she goes to Superdrugs and gets injections!"
I am on clexane injections in this pregnancy due to a blood clot with DD!

"I love Eastenders as much as the next person," well if I am the next person, you love it a great deal more than me. Can't stand it. My children only have the hear the theme tune and clear off like shit off a shovel, so it wouldn't bother them.

PigeonPair · 10/08/2010 12:27

Notso LOL at the Superdrug thing!! Also interesting that your 10 year old picked up immediately what was going on - he can't be the only one. My two are only 5 and 2 so no way they would be watching it but even I was a bit surprised they were showing it. Yes, I could have just turned it off as other posters have suggested, but I wasn't offended, just surprised (and I love a bit or car crash telly Grin).
