drawing on walls in house.

OK I'm well aware this will come across as judgy so I'm setting this disclaimer now. I am not judging was just shocked and wondered whether its my standards that are too high?

Best friend away with hubby and dc's 5&6 and I'm house/ pet sitting.

Ds was playing upstairs and I went up to get him and was genuinly Shocked to see that older dd 6.7 has drawn and written all over the bedroom wall and ripped lots of the paper off. I do know the younger one 5.2yo has a habit of drawing on things as I visit often. Actually she'd drawn in her mums passport which caused problems before they left.

Now I appreciate that children experiment and some write on walls.

I would hit the roof if I caught ds doing this and would probably bin all his crayons (or at least ban them for a long period).

Is my Shock judgy or acceptable? I would be interested to hear from parents who let their dc's do this. I don't want to ask my friend for fear of offending her when it's just general curiosity.

AND a WWYD if you then caught your dc joining in with this drawing on a visit? -hasn't happened yet but if it's accepted as OK should I let him carry on and just explain I don't want it done at my house?

We were allowed to draw on our bedroom wall as children (my sister was v good at art, though, so it was never just scribbling and graffitti, think this might have been a factor).

We looked at it the same way as posters, stickers etc - fine in your own room, but not for other places in the house.
Still had to keep bedroom tidy, though.
However I actually cringe to think at my parents' reaction to me damaging/drawing whatever in someone else's house! NO way!

Tbh, we knew the rules. It is something I plan to let my own kids do within these boundaries, but I would go bonkers if I was supposed to just laugh off visiting kids drawing all over my walls!

Explain the rules to your DS - he'll get it.

Oh just understood that it was in their house - sorry! Blush
Anyway - just wanted to add a 'no way!' to the ripping wallpaper thing...difference between creativity and decorating your own space and general disrespect for yur surroundings?
Am no help Smile

Anyone else find it funny when the DCs write their names and then deny they did it?

'I wasnt me!!'

emptyshell · 09/08/2010 18:49

I find it hilarious when they try to pass notes around class made out of bits of their worksheets, deny it was them when caught out - and at the top of the worksheet on the other side - they've written their name as the thing was given out!

Other one I've had was a kid paying no attention when I was in on supply - so I called his name and asked him to stop. He was most concerned how I could possibly know his name till I pointed out I'd been watching him doodle it all over his pencil case for the last 5 minutes!

Thanks to posters who found the comment about spelling unacceptable.

Iv cheered up now as some art I did yesterday went down well.
