to think my bank statement should tell the truth?

First, apologies for crappy typing, doing this on phone.

checked online bank statement today (sunday 8th august) and saw that monthly fee had been debited with a date of ..... 9th august

Phoned up to complain and was told that it was because it was their internal systems and they knew about it.

So my issues are

Am I being unreasonable to expect my bank statement to be a true and accurate record of the transactions that go through my bank account? ie its the 8th they took the money on, not the 9th? If I hadn't checked until tomorrow I never would've known that the money had gone out today because the date on the statement is wrong

The money was not due to be debited until the 9th. Its £12.50. Suppose I had £15 left in my account to do until tomorrow when wages would go in and I needed that money to go to the hole in the wall and get out a tenner to buy milk, bread, jam etc

Am I being unreasonable?

It's because a sunday isn't a working day so the bastards take it out earlier.

Why are you paying them? They earn more interest on your savings then you, surly this is enough?

Belle it wasn't due out until tomorrow though??

Pay them coz its a packaged deal where I get travel insurance, mobile phone insurance and breakdown cover and some other bits and bobs all included (I'm in Northern Ireland, well not right now but that's where the bank is based)

Technically it's still there until tomorrow. Barclays and twatwest do this aswell, if it's a payment due out on Mondays they 'take it' earlier.

SIt and calculate whether the £12 a month adds up to the benefits you get, 12 times 12 is £144 a year, that's alot of wine money to give them.

Halifax do this with us for all our standing orders, one occasion we couldn't even pay our car insurance which we had specifically transferred money into the account for as they had used that money (on the sunday) to cover the standing orders due out the following day (monday). I kicked up a right stink about it and I just got patronised for wanting to pay the car insurance on the last day of renewal and they just said that's the way it works, deal with it!!

if a credit had been due in tomorrow then it would show today as well though - I think all the banks work like that. If dh is due to get paid on a Monday it normally shows in the account on Sunday.

iamfabregasted · 08/08/2010 19:27

Seona - there is a credit due into the account tomorrow though, and its not showing

And the money has definitely been debited from the balance
