We're going to Paris TOMORROW morning (flights booked and paid for and DD overthe moon with excitment. DP told me he had everything in hand and not to worry.

Just now he casually said - "by the way can you book the hotel - we'll need one for three nights in Pais and one night at Euro Disney and can you get me some more jeas please" Then he turned round and went to work

I wasn't worrying as he'd been so clear he'd sorted everything out. We're never going to get in are we?

Oh God its going to cost an absolute bl**dy bomb

We did that in Bologna - the Moodog way. There were 3 different trade fairs going on and no rooms to be had. We had to drive for hours into the deepest darkest countryside before we found a tiny Albergo.

moondog · 07/08/2010 10:57

Ah yes!
But isn't that part of the fun ,the whole unpredicability of it (am guessing no!)

PenelopeTitsDropped · 07/08/2010 10:58

Don't panic.

Paris is comparatively empty in August, the Parisians leave, a lot of restaurants are shut etc. and it always seems quieter on the tourist front in August.

You'll grab a bargain..... off to look.

Been there done that - once in Modena Italy - train was delayed and when we finally got in at 1am the only room in the whole place available aws in a 4* hotel. We took it and spent an extra 6 months repaying our student loan as a result (was lovely though)

We had to sleep on the station in a small Greek town and at Lake Como resorted to booking a sleeper train to Rome as it was cheaper than any avalable hotel by far .

However I'm 34 with a child now not 19 with a load of mates a rucksack and a don't care attitude

I am a planner, Moondog. I am already starting to think about next year's holiday, and search for accommodation. It is all part of the fun.

Added to that, we are both somewhat picky so we spend too long wandering around the town looking at the outside of hotels and turning our noses up at them. I would rather have it all sorted out so I can enjoy my stay.

Not if you're either

  • on a budget
  • dont have long in the city
  • have kids in tow

I think seat of pants planning used to work better in days before the internet, whereas now, everyone uses Tripadvisor etc. to suss out and book the best hotels in the city so what is left over is often the overpriced tatt, especially in high season. Let's face it, if you arrive hot and tired with children in tow, they are going to smell the desperation.

The days of "undiscovered gems" are fading into history (sob).

DH says I plan the best holidays/hotels in the world; its like bloody military manouveres chez moi when my mind turns to holidays.

I do all the planning.

Once he turned up at the airport with his old 2 days out of date passport; and not his new one; so I just left the silly bugger and went to Morocco on my own.

He's never done that again.

dilemma456 · 07/08/2010 11:41

Normally I plan holidays - DP insisted it was his turn!!

Never mind I'm determined to enjoy it even if I have to sleep on the streets and prostitute myself with Micky Mouse and Goofy to get through the gates Grin

Do not buy him jeans.

Or buy him the wrong size.

Minxie1977 · 07/08/2010 13:57

Insist you do all the packing and only pack him a mankini and a poncho - what a git Smile

dilemma456 · 07/08/2010 15:32

I want to enjoy my holiday - the prospect of DP in a mankini is very off putting Grin

He's sorted it all out now though so am inclined to forgive him!
