MIL is on hols atm inute. She's just texted to ask what size feet DD1 is for trainers. DD1 has really narrow feet and is really difficult to get trainers that fit (and because she wears them loads we always get them properly fitted). AIBU to text back and say DON'T get her shoes!!?

I'd say YANBU. I always get my DC's shoes fitted because they have wide feet and high arches.

zingzillachinchilla · 05/08/2010 15:53

YANBU - if your DD is little, it's really important to get them fitted properly, and if she is bigger, she will want to choose them herself?

PosieParker · 05/08/2010 15:53

Text back and say thank you but unless she tries them on they could well be a complete waste of money.

lal123 · 05/08/2010 15:54

Not just me then? God I HATE it when DPs family come home from hols with cheap imitation rubbish that doesn't fit DC properly and we are meant to be really grateful

just text back and tell her that she needs to try them on because of the narrow feet, and dont write the size, then she wont be able 2 buy it will chose something else, but say thanks in the text then its not rude
yabu to be annoyed with her though she is only trying to be nice

MarthaSlatternStewart · 05/08/2010 15:56

YANBU Both My MIL & mum do this, they never fit and they still do it

I always say it depends on the shoes, but obviously they don't care

text back sometimes a 1 sometimes a 2, or what ever size she is iykwim

Hassled · 05/08/2010 15:56

Text back and say she's OK for trainers atm, but she could really do with some new jeans/tops/whatever though. Don't just say no - it will look a bit ungrateful.

lal123 · 05/08/2010 15:58

Texted her back with size and that because she has narrow feet very difficult to get one's that fit - she's just texted back that they don't have her size - phew! Now I just have to hope she doesn't buy bigger ones that DD can "grow into"

Oh God yes MIL does this too, currently we have a pair of school shoes that still won't fit this year and a pair of pink barbie boots bought 2/3 years ago

dd1 is 9 now and won't entertain pink barbie boots

lal123 · 05/08/2010 16:03

lol - MIL has a wardrobe full of bigger school coats bought in various sales for both DDs (DD2 is only 9 months...) This winter's is a horrible red shiny puffy thing. I bought DD a nice black school coat, and just acted stupid when MIL asked "but, did you forget I've already gotten her one?". It will be handy to have a spare and I am grateful, but DD would NOT wear it.

I'm packing to move and have just packed a box of beautiful Monsoon clothes and shoes for the charity shop that my Mum has bought in various sales over the years for DD... who is a tomboy and likes nothing better than to wallow in mud/water/long grass and needs specially fitted shoes or her feet turn in.

You would think that my Mum would notice and buy her jeans or a sweatshirt.

Not ungrateful... just amazed that she hasn't spotted that her granddaughter is permanently camouflaged by mud and grass stains.

inkyfingers · 05/08/2010 16:29

wish someone would go on holiday and bring me back monsoon clothes - autumn range be good, size 12. nothing tacky ...

shockers · 05/08/2010 16:36

Don't get me wrong, I'd love some new clothes from there! Mum doesn't buy for me any more because I'm 'grown up' (apparently).

She gets DS's in Fat Face sales... he fares considerably better than DD, who always looks slightly envious when his are produced.

I've tried hinting (heavily).

inkyfingers · 05/08/2010 16:40

Fat Face! You've got a sassy mum - mine hasn't moved beyond M&S. Must now get off MN and do something useful.

Colliecross · 05/08/2010 17:13

My mum is madder than yours!

She has bought a school coat for the grandson of her next door neighbour ! Also they are loaded
