SHIT outside my house, and then not clear it up.
we live in a culdi-sac,in a nice village.
we have found crap outside our house(well by the wall on the road) a few times in the last couple of months and have wondered who could be so brazen as to do this in full view.
so,i have been leaping to my feet everytime a neighbour walks past with their dog,but no, they always clear up.

this morning i was taking my young children (4,2 and 10 weeks) out i nthe car.

i see a girl letting her dog crap on road ouside house opposite.
i wait, and she senses me there and puts her hand in her pocket.
i wait.
she puts her hand in her other pocket.
i wait.
she crouches down and adjusts her sock, looking over her shoulder to see if i'm still there.
i lower th window and say "well, you're not going to find a bag in there are you?

she says no.
anyway,i asked her why she'd come out with no bags, and told her that i wasn't happy, that i wanted her to go home, get a bag and clear it up.
when i came home it was gone.
my mum reckons i'll have her parents round later
i said i'll tell them as well!
aibu?

Speaking as someone who had to scrub dog sh1t out of DS's crocs yesterday, no, YADNBU

musicmadness · 04/08/2010 21:57

can understand you being annoyed but are you sure it was her every time?
I still remember vividly the 1 time that i forgot to take a bag out with me was the 1 time my dog decided that he would poo in the middle of the football pitch on the local park . i swear he did it on purpose as he normally goes into the undergrowth which is full of nettles so there is no way anyone will tread in it. fortunately in my case i spotted another dogwalker and went and begged asked for a bag so i could clean up. might have been better to just offer her a bag, if she didn't just walk off she probably was very embarassed!

motherbeyond · 05/08/2010 08:53

i only thought of offering her a nappy bag after i'd driven off,or i could have said go and knock on my door my mum will give you one...i was late for an appointment.
not sure how old the girl was, between 12-14.

riven that is just horrid isn't it?poor dd and dh...i ran the double through some at some local gardens and used all my bottled water trying to get it off, spent ages dragging it along grass...and could STILL fucking smell it.makes me gip

justonemorethen..i would have told thee stupid woman to bring it on,ring the police...you were perfectly entitled to tell the girl to get her dog off your lawn..how rude!!
and for whoever said i should tell off litter louts..i do that too!!

If she's old enough to be out on her own with a dog, she's old enough to be responsible for it, and its crap.
YANBU
re the pocket business, sounds like it has worked for her in the past and didn't this time.

goblinchild i know, i did smile when i saw her doing the pocket thing!!the jacket only really had slits rather than pockets so it didn't take long to 'search' inside

euphemia i STILL would have had a go at him...but then i'm a gobby cow

Maybe she had genuinely forgotten the bag and was embarassed when she realised her pockets were empty.

motherbeyond · 05/08/2010 11:25

doubt it

Well, of course YANBU to ask her to clean up after her dog, but you could have done it a bit friendlier.

"Have you forgotten a bag, here, I will give you a tissue".

I sometimes just use loo roll and then flush it down the loo.

If she were my DD and had come home upset then I would be angry at you. Sometimes I go out without a bag by mistake. Am I supposed to clean it up with my bare hands?

wigglesrock · 05/08/2010 11:45

You came out, shouted at a girl you don't know because she may have forgotten a bag, didn't offer a bag but told her to come back and clean it. She may have been 12-14, could she have maybe been 10, you have no idea whether she has done this before or whether she genuinely forgot a bag. Do you remember being that age and a random woman telling you off for a mistake, I do, it was excruitating(?) Dog shit is horrible but I think yab(slightly)u

FindingMyMojo · 05/08/2010 12:46

YANBU

NarkyPuffin · 05/08/2010 14:33

YANBU. Pets come with responsibilities. Old enough to walk the dog alone = responsible for cleaning up after dog.

OP didn't shout and wasn't abusive. She told the girl to come back and clean it up. That's the kind of thing that makes neighbourhoods pleasant to live in.

When did we become so precious about our children? I doubt the girl's going to be emotionally scarred, and she'll remember to bring a bag next time!

abirdinthehand · 05/08/2010 14:38

All the people on here who flick the poo under hedges or let their dogs go under bushes so don't pick it up - that bothers me a bit tbh, if it's in the park. My DS likes to go 'exploring' in our local park, off into the undergrowth - it annopys me that I can't let him roam free without worrying about poo all the time.

MathsMadMummy · 05/08/2010 14:42

YANBU, you weren't nasty by the sound of it.

dog poo really annoys me. we live in a lovely residential area but for some reason all the posh dog-owners seem to think picking up the mess is beneath them
