I am having such a bad week

And it's all your (plural) fault!

Ahh, what a relief, it's the other 2blessed you're mad at, the elderly lawyer one, not me!

Orm - you should have seen the look on our solicitors face when we bought at auction, I wish I'd had my camera. The amount of times they said 'Well, there's not time to check x, y or z when you buy at auction' pathetic. It takes soooo long and it's so uncertain for so long in the UK, it's terrible.

I no longer fit my fat jeans, let alone my skinny jeans... so you probably don't want to be taking to much advice from me, but takeaway, wine & chocolate to look forward to might just get you through the day and a latter may help this morning....

OrmRenewed · 05/08/2010 07:53

Thanks chippin - when we put our house on the market I posted on here about how I was dreading the whole ghastly business and how it would be so much better if you could sell and buy houses from a broker so do without the hassle and cost and hanging around. Everyone said I was mad! Well I wasn't

Problem is our buyers wanted to move in next week which was fine then out of the blue, 6 days before suggested moving date, our vendor's solicitor woke up and panicked and said 'Nooooooooo!' So we've put if off by 2 weeks - but we'll be moving out of our house but not sure we'll be able to move into the new one. Complete pig's ear!

OP posts:
ChippingIn · 05/08/2010 07:59

Yes it is (a complete pig's ear) the system here is ludicrous - no-one can plan anything for sure and it's all 'up in the air' for bloody ages. It needs overhauling - there are plenty of other systems out there that work much better.

I don't suppose your buyers can wait a bit longer? It depends where they are in the chain I suppose and hoz flexible those behind them are.

I've just had friends have their moving in date changed by a month and the were upset/annoyed - but I pointed out to them that they were first time buyers, living rent free, no kids and could save another £1000 towards stuff for the house (mtge not starting for a month later!), so they perked up a bit. It's not the same when you have to move out and don't have anywhere to go.

I guess it's 'storage facilities & friends/parents/cheap hotel??

Still don't lose hope yet, it might all work out just fine

OrmRenewed · 05/08/2010 08:01

They are ftb too. But they want to be in in time for start of term as the dd is starting in a new secondary school. And we did say we'd try to move asap. But sadly it's not down to us

mumblechum · 05/08/2010 08:34

Orm, stick your stuff into storage and come and join us in our holiday cottage in Devon (just down the road from us).

We're going to have LOADS of wine and we'll be bathing in melted chocolate.

And it's in the grounds of a big fancy hotel so we can go in the spa. GwanGwanGwan

ChippingIn · 05/08/2010 08:50

Well, it might not be ideal for them, but hopefully they can be a bit flexible then...

Mumblechum - how many 'spare' rooms (bits of floor) do you have

bumpsnowjustplump · 05/08/2010 08:53

Orm if this was the date of completion and it was set when you exchanged dont the vendors have to pick up the tab of storage, hotel etc???? I may be totaly wrong about that though but I thought that once you had exchanged nothing else could be changed..

unavailable · 05/08/2010 09:16

If it's my fault that your sale is stalled, then it must be your fault that mine is looking dodgy!

(Oh, and I dont fit into my wide legged jeans, never mind skinnies)

shockers · 05/08/2010 09:43

I'm moving at the end of the week

It's taken a year of paying two mortages

Orm... you'll look back and laugh...

shockers · 05/08/2010 09:44

Palazzo (sp?) pants are the new skinny jeans!

OrmRenewed · 05/08/2010 09:57

Oh I'm laughing already shockers Ha! Ha! Ha!

OP posts:
ChippingIn · 05/08/2010 17:45

shockers - a year of paying two mortgages - bloody hell. Will you make the money back on the one you've sold?

shockers · 05/08/2010 19:39

And two lots of council tax (one at a lower rate though).

Yes... we will get the equity from the house and be better off each month. I can't wait!

This year has been financially and emotionally draining. I have had to remind myself that I'm incredibly fortunate to have been able to stay in my house whilst the other was made habitable, and also that I will soon be living in a lovely spot by a river .

It will take me another year to get the paint out of my hair though!

ChippingIn · 05/08/2010 20:30

So, you were living in one and doing up the other one?? If so, that's not sooo bad, I thought you had bought one and been unable to sell the other one

I bet you can't wait!! A lovely new house in a lovely spot and lots of spare money - what's not to like

Well, if you get paint withdrawl you can come and stay with me

shockers · 05/08/2010 21:46

I am snowblind with painting... I had the daft idea that everywhere would look crisp and fresh in white. We're not even in yet and there are grubby handprints on the walls... and I have spots in front of my eyes from staring at it as I paint.

I am very excited though... there is the aforementioned river behind us and tennis courts, a cricket pitch/club and a football pitch to one side and a rugby pitch a short stroll down the river. Not bad for a family with a sports mad boy eh? I have fantastic neighbours who have been looking after DH while he's been doing it up with homemade cakes and tea. Yesterday, I looked out of the big glass doors at the back and caught my breath at the vast assortment of greens. The trees are just beautiful... and we have a songthrush.

Can you tell how much I love it?

ChippingIn · 05/08/2010 22:35

Oh don't tell me that - I spent half of today looking at 5 million variations of white!! Have you done it different whites in each room or gone for one white throughout??

Keeping it white is easy - buy a log cabin for the kids to live in

Wow - his own sports centre I'm turning into a right sissy - I'd worry about the river - I know what we were like as kids!!!

Nice neighbours that bake - what a find!!!

Any chance you might tease us with some photos??? Don't worry if you don't want to, I never put any up, a bit paranoid at losing my anonimity which I love!)

I'm getting a rough idea how much you like it

weegiemum · 05/08/2010 22:40

aww shockers, I have a lovely house by a river, adn it is bliss to lie in bed and listening to the river rolling past the window ..........

Shame its 250 miles away with tenants in it!

(when the river floods, will it be our fault?)

shockers · 05/08/2010 23:49

It's only a little bungalow... nothing grand but it's perfik for me. I will try to do a profile and put some pics on.

The river isn't exactly rolling past the window... there are some trees and a little bowling green in between, it's about 100yards away. The fields on the opposite bank are the flood plain (just in case!).

Still at the thought of all those trees....

shockers · 05/08/2010 23:50

Sorry Orm.... hope your move comes soon.
