I've run out of washing up liquid, would it be ok with just a little squirt and then I'll rinse them?? Or just go for the hot water option...

I would leave them till the morning but we are going on a day trip 1st thing and wont have time.

I would try a neighbour and ask to borrow a bit, although shampoo is probably very similar in composition to washing up liquid.

Just hot water wouldn't get rid of any grease on things.

quaere · 01/08/2010 20:06

Um... it's not going to get rid of any germs you know

onepieceoflollipop · 01/08/2010 20:07

not even next door? (you are going to tell me now your nearest neighbour is 4 miles away! )

onepieceoflollipop · 01/08/2010 20:07

If it's only a day trip and not a holiday personally I would make a neat stack and leave them until tomorrow evening.

I have often washed my hair with washing up liquid and still have hair, if that helps.

Al1son · 01/08/2010 20:11

I was told by an eczema nurse that shampoo and bubble bath are basically the same as washing up liquid but with a bit of perfume when he was advising me to use moisturisers. That makes me thing that it would work perfectly well but would probably need a good rinse off to get rid of the perfume.

katkouta · 01/08/2010 20:15

Colliecross I seem to remember my mum bathing me and my sister with washing up liquid once or twice when we were little!

I'll give it a go then, my shampoo is unperfumed so shouldn't be too bad.....

katkouta it keeps your face as soft as your hands

blametheparents · 01/08/2010 20:20

Shampoo or shower gel, either will be fine

lenak · 01/08/2010 20:25

Have you got any car shampoo - as long as it is not wash and wax, it is basically washing up liquid.

tingelingle · 01/08/2010 20:27

Of course it'll be fine. And it'll get rid of germs. S'all soap at the end of the day.

Ragwort · 01/08/2010 20:29

It will be absolutely fine - just don't do what I did once - had run out of dishwasher powder so put washing powder in the machine instead - soapsuds everywhere !!!

scallopsrgreat · 01/08/2010 20:30

Course it will be fine and it'll get rid of germs. Hot water alone will clean most of it!

bulby · 01/08/2010 20:36

Basically you just need something to emulsify the fat any sort of liquid soap or shampoo will be fine. I've used a small amount of washing powder before now and that was fine too. As for the germ killing bit, the vast majority of washing up liquids aren't anti bacterial anyway

katkouta · 01/08/2010 20:38

Thanks all, it worked a treat!
