I have not heard the record but I saw him sing one song from it on TV. It was downbeat,
but very impressive in its way. Its all about
CARING apparently, which we are all interested in, in our different ways.

People will be cynical, I think Tom means it.
(and that will be unusual.

He was a bril popster as a young man. One of the best 10 pop voices of all time. Popster is a legit word

Will he still be able to sing 'Sex Bomb' if he's got religion?

Are you sure 'popster' is a legit word?

I rather like old Tom, I'll feel slightly sad if he's become too worthy and sincere.

KurriKurri · 01/08/2010 16:34

Not sure why this is in AIBU by the way

BitOfFun · 01/08/2010 16:34

It often happens when people get older. It's not unusual.

WideWebWitch · 01/08/2010 16:38

lol at 'it's not unusual'

apparently his record company re pissed off about it. Can't say I blame them.

WideWebWitch · 01/08/2010 16:38

'are' pissed off about it that should read

SpringHeeledJack · 01/08/2010 16:39

I fully intend to get religion when I'm 70

...and start on the fags again. It's gonna be a blast

Funny how it happens to people as they grow older. I think Ringo Starr has recently rediscovered God too.

SpringHeeledJack · 01/08/2010 17:00

...I heard TJ talk about this on the radio a little while ago and it appeared more as though he was going back to his musical (Chapel) heritage rather than "getting religion"- iykwim

KurriKurri · 01/08/2010 17:01

Ringo Starr??? - next you'll be telling me Sir Cliff has got God.

Alouiseg · 01/08/2010 17:03

Rat in a drainpipe springs to mind. Egotistical old gimmer can't bear to think that he won't last forever so he's hedging his bets.

Islandlady · 01/08/2010 17:41

I have just downloaded the whole CD onto my Ipod its deffo my type of music

FellatioNelson · 01/08/2010 21:03

Ah, but look though

Don't bail out too soon - give it to 1m20secs to get going. It's worth it.

I imagine he has much to atone for.

Tippychoocks · 01/08/2010 21:08

Best time to catch the relidge surely?
I heard Ringo on the radio t'other week and he seemed very spiritual, if a little wandery (thoughtwise). There's a lot of it about.

FellatioNelson · 01/08/2010 21:20

Yep, nothing like getting old or being banged up for a good few years to make one find God at last.

gtamom · 02/08/2010 01:27

Lol@it's not unusual.
kd lang's music is headed that way too. (her version of "What's New Pussycat" was really good.

GabbyLoggon · 02/08/2010 14:21

Yes, of course the 70 year old Tom can sing Sex Bomb. " Sex bomb, sex bomb, cheeky
pup/ Can he realy get it up."
The CofE God does not have a sense of humour. So I would not worship that God.
We should not be too cynical about Tom. (But Dylan became tedious as a man of religioun) Cliff? He is difficult to fathom.
I thought the "Ring of Fire" bloke was genuine.
