10 in our city tomorrow for a fantastic good cause - one very close to my heart after a recent family berevement, death of a friend and serious illness for another friend BUT the route is a nightmare from one persepective. It is going to make it a bit tricky to get to church as our church is basically cut off as are the five others in our area (don't ask - v holy ) Dh and the kids will make it ok but our friends with disabled son will be struggling and most of our old folks won't be able to come as they can't walk too well. Even if you can walk or cycle you've still got to be able to cross the roads to get to the church. We are about 3k in to the route, the race starts at 9 and 8000 are running (which is fab obviously) - this means the road outside is going to be a continuous stream of runners I think. We can go up one set of stairs and across a bridge and down another set but aforementioned disabled and elderly just can't do that. It seems like such a shame - there is NO need at all for the race to take this route, it didn't last year. I think the council are trying to keep it away from the shops - due to pressure from the commercial sector. I sympathise with that but am I asking too much for them to have thought that a street with numerous churches on or near will be quite busy already on a sunday am? Or AIBU?
