She has other shoes and the shit is embedded in the treads. Plus they will be too small soon and i was going to buy her new ones next month. I just really don't want to spend my evening scrubbing orange runny dogshit off them and then bleaching the sink.

well i wash my kids shitty nappies in the washing machine.... so why not pooey shoes?

i have to admit i probably wouldn't put the shoes in the machine tho in case they fell apart
i'd clean them with newspaper/old brillo pad/scourer/jay cloth.. anything really. then disinfect.

but i hate throwing anything useable away. would rather clean and pass them on

i DID have a big quandary when ds1 stepped on a dead rat once tho. that was seriously nasty

blueshoes · 31/07/2010 21:42

Wash them. There are far more unpleasant experiences - so just gird your loins and get on with it. It is a sin to be wasteful.

mumeeee · 31/07/2010 21:42

I've often washed shoes in the washing machine. No poo doesn't stick around in the machine it washes away.

AnnoyingOrange · 31/07/2010 21:43

I just washed ds2's trainers - left them standing in a shallow tray outside, filled with vanish and water, until the poo loosened then gave them a swoosh, removed a few stubborn bits with a stick and left them to dry outside

Firawla · 31/07/2010 21:45

i would wash them because even if she's nearly grown out of them there are some charities happy to take second hand shoes, so if they are used but with more wear in them then just wash it. if they are tatty and v v well used then i suppose save yourself the work

TheMoonOnAStick · 31/07/2010 21:51

I can remember dd's very first pair of little shoes getting covered in it. I was incandescent

Anyway...3 dc later and many a weary scrubbing of dog poo session later, yes I probably would clean them.

Very hot water and one of those old fashioned floor scrubber brushes does the trick. It helps if you curse all inconsiderate dog owners to doomsday and back whilst you're doing it I've found.

sapphireblue · 31/07/2010 22:13

how would poo stick around in the machine til the next wash? Surely it would be washed out with the water? When I think of the amount of baby/todder poo/sick/snot etc etc that's been through my washing machine............you really can't worry about a bit of dog poo!

Ilythia · 31/07/2010 22:18

I would wash them but they wouldn't make it. I have chucked them in the machine a few times and the soles and the velcro are starting to go. They really aren't fit for use.
plus its nasty extra stinky orange sick dog poo. I'm not going nearit.
am ing at 'its a sin to be wasteful.
they cost 4 quid and are battered to fuck! I am only chucking them a month early!

Those of you getting worried about poo in the washing machine, do you have dishwashers. Gosh how do you cope with all the mouldy food in there? Exactly!

We live in the countryside, there is a lot of shit and mud here. The trick is to soak the souls first overnight in a bowl of warm soapy water, then rinse them and the majority of it will come right off.

expatinscotland · 31/07/2010 22:22

If you use the machine, after you do so, run a cycle on the hottest wash with 200mL of bleach in the detergent compartment.

You should do that once a month, anyhow, to prevent mould formation.

PrivetDancer · 31/07/2010 22:23

Baby poo seems far less offensive than dog poo though.
Nappies / pooey clothes (after a rinse) are fair does in a washing machine, but not shitty shoes! Especially £4 ones.

MumNWLondon · 31/07/2010 22:29

If they were canvas I'd chuck in washing machine with bio washing tablet and see what happened. Would do empty wash on next cycle. When DS1 was being toilet trained put pants caked in poo in washing machine and was always fine.

If they were clarks etc I'd probably clean them in the bathroom.

If there were very cheap or almost too small may were chuck.
